The ESP pot man cave gets intellectualized in the newest issue of the New Yorker. Of the space, Ben McGrath quotes New Urbanist theorist Andrés Duany: "These cats were escaping a code of behavior that probably was not male enough." Yes, that must be it. (Thanks, chrisck!)

The article in the New Yorker references a talk Duany gave (with Sandy Sorlien) in 2006. It was at the Congress for the New Urbanism.
