Shopping the farmers' markets

farmers market report logoOne of the best things about weekends in the Capital Region is shopping the farmers' markets.

This week: Winter squash is here. You'll also find berries, potatoes and other good stuff.

Here are a few more details from the local markets about what to expect this weekend.

SATURDAY MARKETS

Troy Farmers' Market

Riverfront Park (map)
Saturdays 9AM - 1PM

Cornell Farms:
Vegetables, berries, honey maple syrup eggs flowers.

Dancing Ewe Farm:
Lamb, Sausage, sheep and cow milk, Prima Caciotta, Ricotta

Homestead Farms:
Veggies, fruit, flowers,meat, poultry, eggs, plants, soap.

Also Expect:

Lloyd Spear Beekeeper:
Honey and beeswax candles.

Schenectady Greenmarket

Fresh now:

Winter squash--butternut, acorn and more.

Potatoes, cabbage, peppers, eggplant, sweet corn, pears, apples and tomatoes.

Veggies: beans, beets, bok choy, broccoli, cabbage, carrots, cauliflower, corn, cucumbers, edamame, eggplant, garlic, leeks, onions, peppers, potatoes, shallots, squash, tomatoes, tomatillos, turnips, zuchinni

Greens: arugula, braising greens, chard, endive, escarole, kale, lettuces, salad mixes, spinach

Herbs: basil, dill, cilantro, Italian large leaf parsley, mints, oregano, tarragon, thyme, and more

Fruits: apples, melons, nectarines, peaches, pears, pluots, plums, raspberries, watermelons

Heamour Farm: freshly-made cheeses and new yogurt flavors--lemon and orange.

Community Table: Concerned for the Hungry Schenectady Food Providers' Hunger Awareness Event

Over a dozen Schenectady County Food Providers will be sharing information on their programs, which benefit the hungry in Schenectady County.

St. George's Greek Festival will be across the street from the market this week. Check here first for details on where to park.
