My Exit: Robert Millis

Tonight's My Exit D.J. Robert Millis (left) at a recent Alive at Five show.

Every Monday night our friends at WEXT do this thing called My Exit -- local listeners get to come into the station and program an hour of music. So we thought it'd be fun to find out a little bit about these people and why they picked the songs on their play list.

Here's tonight's person:

Who:
Robert Millis. I'm a "business strategy consultant" (specializing in tech companies) in Saratoga Springs and Boston. I also publish TechValleyTimes. In my spare time I'm a concert producer and promoter.

How would you describe your musical taste?
Music I enjoy: "Just-below-the-radar" indie-rock and roots-rock music

Five songs from Robert's My Exit show:
The Byrds "Lover of the Bayou" (live version): part of my first set (along with the Allman Bros & New Riders of the Purple Sage) of samples of the music I listened to as a kid . Plus it has great fret work from the very under-rated Clarence White.

Jeff Beck "Because We Ended As Lovers": My college roommate would play this album (Blow By Blow) an average of twice a day -- and I never objected. One of the best recorded examples of a guitar 'talking'.

The Tallest Man On Earth "It Will Follow The Rain": part of my segment of sample acts I have brought into the region for shows. This solo artist was playing coffee houses in Sweden when I was first turned onto his Guthrie/Dylan-like time warp. After a few emails and a promise to line up a few US club dates, I agreed to help launch his career over here. He's now touring the world as the "new big thing." Kinda cool.

You can hear Brian's My Exit show tonight at 8 at 97.7 or at exit977.org.

Here's how to schedule your own My Exit show on WEXT.

The second: treat everyone else with the same respect you'd like to see in return. Cool? Great, post away. Comments are moderated so it might take a little while for your comment to show up. Do something at a state park maybe? We had our anniversary at Thacher Park. There are a lot of logistics when you do it that way, but it's a beautiful view, there is a pavilion so you don't need a tent, and they have bathrooms so you don't need to rent potties.
