My Exit: Robert Millis

Tonight's My Exit D.J. Robert Millis (left) at a recent Alive at Five show.

Every Monday night our friends at WEXT do this thing called My Exit -- local listeners get to come into the station and program an hour of music. So we thought it'd be fun to find out a little bit about these people and why they picked the songs on their play list.

Here's tonight's person:

Who:
Robert Millis. I'm a "business strategy consultant" (specializing in tech companies) in Saratoga Springs and Boston. I also publish TechValleyTimes. In my spare time I'm a concert producer and promoter.

How would you describe your musical taste?
Music I enjoy: "Just-below-the-radar" indie-rock and roots-rock music

Five songs from Robert's My Exit show:
The Byrds "Lover of the Bayou" (live version): part of my first set (along with the Allman Bros & New Riders of the Purple Sage) of samples of the music I listened to as a kid . Plus it has great fret work from the very under-rated Clarence White.

Jeff Beck "Because We Ended As Lovers": My college roommate would play this album (Blow By Blow) an average of twice a day -- and I never objected. One of the best recorded examples of a guitar 'talking'.

The Tallest Man On Earth "It Will Follow The Rain": part of my segment of sample acts I have brought into the region for shows. This solo artist was playing coffee houses in Sweden when I was first turned onto his Guthrie/Dylan-like time warp. After a few emails and a promise to line up a few US club dates, I agreed to help launch his career over here. He's now touring the world as the "new big thing." Kinda cool.

You can hear Brian's My Exit show tonight at 8 at 97.7 or at exit977.org.

Here's how to schedule your own My Exit show on WEXT.

Say Something!

We'd really like you to take part in the conversation here at All Over Albany. But we do have a few rules here. Don't worry, they're easy. The first: be kind. The second: treat everyone else with the same respect you'd like to see in return. Cool? Great, post away. Comments are moderated so it might take a little while for your comment to show up. Thanks for being patient.
