My Exit: Joe Nate McDaniel
Every Monday night our friends at WEXT do this thing called My Exit -- local listeners get to come into the station and program an hour of music. So we thought it'd be fun to find out a little bit about these people and why they picked the songs on their play list.
Here's tonight's person:
Who:
Joe Nathan McDaniel II from Troy, NY by way of the dirty south (Arkansas)
How would you describe your musical taste?
I thoroughly enjoy music too much to have a favorite. It depends on my mood or my activity -- I enjoy just a little bit from every genre. My collection is definitely heavy on the R&B, Soul and Hip-Hop side. I've got everything from Frank Sinatra to Killswitch Engage. There's also some Spongebob Square Pants remixes and William Hung sings the blues.
A few songs from Joe's My Exit Show:
I Want You Back - Jackson 5
Regardless of what anyone has said about his personal life, from birth to death, Michael Jackson has been a huge influence on the face of music. I wanted to add some Lil Michael to my playlist, not that I don't appreciate his later work, but it's hard to beat his early work, especially considering the time it was released.
So Fresh So Clean - Outkast
Outkast is in a class all by themselves. This song has the smooth groove that makes you bob your head, but it isn't your typical hip hop track about money, women or drugs. Ok, well at least not drugs. It's music that I can enjoy with my friends or my parents, which says a lot.
Mama Knew Love - Anthony Hamilton
This song speaks volumes about the love of family. While Anthony Hamiliton is singing about his mother, it reminds me of my mother and father, as well as the privileged care I received. Both parents were willing to give it all for the necessities and comfort of their two hard headed sons. Plus, I hope that adding this song to my playlist gets me some brownie points. Even though I moved out of my parent's home years ago, I'm still grounded from the trouble I stirred as a teenager. Anthony Hamiliton really opens himself up on this song (and album) with a soulful groove that aims right for the heart.

Say Something!
We'd really like you to take part in the conversation here at All Over Albany. But we do have a few rules here. Don't worry, they're easy. The first: be kind. The second: treat everyone else with the same respect you'd like to see in return. Cool? Great, post away. Comments are moderated so it might take a little while for your comment to show up. Thanks for being patient.
