Five Guys for Guilderland

The Gazette's Ameerah Cetawayo reports that Five Guys is opening a new location in Guilderland next spring at the site of the old Denny's on Western Ave, across from Stuyvesant Plaza (map). The new spot fills in a hole in the burger chain's coverage of the Capital Region.

oh dear. that's mere steps away from where I work. why must you torture me, Five Guys?

Oh no. The only thing keeping me from weekly Five Guys is the fact that it was annoying to get to. This is dangerous.

AOA needs a "like" button, along with the 24/7 posting thing, and life moderation. You've got work to do!

I'm mystified by the whole Five Guys/Fudruckers/Red Robin trend. Were there no places selling burgers before these chains moved here? I've had FG burgers. They're good, but they are..well...burgers. Can anyone shed some light on this?

Dangerous was the first thing that came to my mind too.

I'm guessing Creo wouldn't look too kindly on bringing a burger from across the street to enjoy with a nice bottle of cabernet on their back deck. I'd even be willing to pay some kind of BYO fee. Maybe if it was at an off time, we might be able to work something out.

Spring is only, what, five months away?

@thisjustin I can try to explain a bit about Five Guys. But I can't do it justice in short form. Fortunately, I have something on hand to share:

I used to love Fuddruckers, but think it's gone way down hill, especially over the past 10 years. Still, their grilled buns are dynamite.

But Red Robin is a complete mystery to me too.

Five Guys is in fact coming, I learned this a month ago from one of the managers in a different location, supposedly opening in February. The magic of Five Guys is multi-fold, but I chalk it up to consistently inconsistent patty formation -- they hand pack the patties daily, from non-frozen beef supposedly. The fries are cut daily from sacked potatoes, and they always tell you what state your fries came from. The service is always snappy, and from what I have found, the order is never wrong. Considering previous "Best Burgers" from Metroland have rated BEFF'S and some other weird places, including Red Robin, it's always frozen (seems it), and it's always... WEIRD. 5G is delightful at any of the 6 locations I've ever been to, and the only difference from one shop to another is salted vs. unsalted peanuts. Big Chain aside, I think they're still outstanding, and incredibly friendly, affordable, and delicious. Another location set to open in Latham, they said. MMMMM.

yes its true we are comming and accepting applications for anyone interested in a amazing company and a GREAT man and Family to work for I will be accepting applications and please feel free to call my cell- (518) 772-8000 ask for the Bobbo
