Egg lobby

The Paterson administration's proposed budget would cut the state's subsidy to The Egg, which makes up about 15 percent of the theater's budget. Now the Egg is hoping you'll urge the legislature to keep that funding intact.

Sorry, in the grand scheme of things, state funding for a theater is at the bottom of the list.

What's the sale here? Seems like if the egg isn't open as much, shows would jsut move to the palace or proctors or EMPAC or any of the other venues.

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the Egg, and really enjoy going their for shows. That said, aren't they a for-profit theater? I know they are in a State-owned building, but are they run by the State? I guess I don't understand why they would be part of the State budget, except maybe for building upkeep. It's not like they are even holding free educational events there.

NYSTI had a much larger part of their budget cut, and they are a source for performance and education in the community. That seems like a better fit to receive State funding. They too have a facebook support page.
