Brrrrr

grafton winterfest polar plunge

(Insert your own joke about shrinkage.)

Sebastien's posted a photoset from this past weekend's Winterfest at Grafton Lakes State Park. One of the chilly highlights: the polar plunge. Lots of "holy ****, it's cold" faces.

The set also includes some interesting photos of state police ice divers, who put on a demonstration.

From the angle these photos were shot, is it fair to say he was in the water while taking them? Yikes!

Great stuff S, but I missed ya!!! did the one in Lake George on Sunday.

Kristi, In the photoset, you can see they cut out a rectangular section in the ice... Sebastien's probably standing on the ice at the far side (like, at the 'finish line'). But I could be wrong :D

@Kristi: nope, it is fair to say that I'm a huge chicken and I was just crouching and zooming. And I was cold just doing that.

@JVG: Lake George? I thought it was only on January 1st, i.e. the New Years Day Polar Plunge. If you didn't take photos, then it didn't happen :)

We arrived too late for the Polar Plunge (not that there's a snowballs chance in hell that I'd ever try it!) But, we were wondering if the contestants were roped in to prevent flash frozen drowning. Guess this answers our question. Don't see any ropes on these macho men!

@S.
Check my FB, there's a vid,I was sporting the Tropicini, same one from the Speedo Sprint this year.

The Scoop

For a decade All Over Albany was a place for interested and interesting people in New York's Capital Region. It was kind of like having a smart, savvy friend who could help you find out what's up. AOA stopped publishing at the end of 2018.

Albany tightened its rules for shoveling snowy sidewalks last winter -- so how'd that work out?
