Rats officially headed south
The Albany River Rats officially announced today what had been rumored for weeks: they've been sold and they're headed to North Carolina after the season. The Rats have been averaging 3,517 fans at their home games this season -- that's fourth worst in the AHL. Update: WNYT reports that Billy Fuccillo is in the mix to possibly bring in another team. (Thanks, Ed!)

The upshot is that TUC GM Bob Belber says Albany has an "over 90" percent chance of landing a new AHL franchise within the week. And WNYT is reporting that Billy Fuccillo could be involved. This could be HUUUGE.

The article says there's another closer NHL team who is considering Albany.. it would be pretty awesome to have a NHL affiliate that I could actually go see occasionally. If it works out that Boston, Isles, Rangers, or Canadiens sign us then this whole deal would be a win for me:)
If we don't get signed I'll just have to save up all my hockey money all year for a big trip to Toronto... so I guess it's a win-win!
