YNN

Time Warner is changing the name of Capital News 9 to YNN (for Your News Now). The name will be shared by all TW's upstate cable news stations (it'll probably make sharing content easier). We're kind of sorry to see name Capital News 9 go... YNN sort of sounds like a Canadian airport.

CNN unavailable for comment.

Reminder: http://capitalnews9.com/ (or whatever) remains the likeliest place to find a bit of video for stories you've missed. As an extreme and tragic example, more than five years ago I learned too late that a friend of mine had died in a freak car accident. The clip is still up today. Terrible news and small consolation. But I was glad to find it.

LQ

I can't decide if "YNN" makes me want to YAWN or go listen to YANNI. Or if we do it phoenetically, it's almost "Why ann enn?" or "Whinin' End?" Hey maybe they can hire sportscaster Rodger Wyland for the station, give him a show called "WY EN EN with WY LEN END."

I think, "they're ripping off CNN," and makes it sound really cheap, when, in actuality, it's pretty decent news source as LQ noted.

Of course, they can rip off CNN, since both companies are owned by Time Warner, but I can't help but think of it as un-original.

Even NYN, New York News, would be a bit better, since they're going for a statewide-brand identity.

NYN wouldn't work if they expand out of the state. When they keep putting affiliates out of business like they did in Syracuse, I think people will take the name more seriously.

We didn't mind when our cable 6 news out of Middletown , at 6:3o PM, became Albany cable 6 but for the last three days we have watched your YNN have decided it is a poor excuse for a news channel and will watch it for 2 more days in hopes of improvement and if not we will not watch YNN. Once we saw the traffic girl adjusting her lipstick and last night she never came on even thought it was announced and Lindsey Liquori (whom we do like) on two occasions just sat in front of the camera with no sound.

Say Something!

We'd really like you to take part in the conversation here at All Over Albany. But we do have a few rules here. Don't worry, they're easy. The first: be kind. The second: treat everyone else with the same respect you'd like to see in return. Cool? Great, post away. Comments are moderated so it might take a little while for your comment to show up. Thanks for being patient.
