Pitchfork on Phantogram

Phantogram's Eyelid Movies coverThe Pitchfork review of Phantogram's Eyelid Movies posted today -- with a 7.5. For the 'fork, that's good -- on the edge of very good.

From Paul Thompson's review:

They couldn't have picked a better title. Eyelid Movies, the debut LP from the self-proclaimed "street beat" duo Phantogram, is a lush and evocative thumper indebted to the sultry side of Moby's Play. Riding a steady trip-hop inspired groove, the hushed and mostly mellow Eyelid Movies seems a fine companion piece to a long stroll or something more sedentary and meditative; point being, it sounds great in the background.
But lean a little closer and you'll find plenty about Eyelid Movies to get swept up in. ...

Later on Thompson compares the Saratoga Springs duo to current it band The xx.

You can download Eyelid Movies from Amazon right now for just $8 (it's $10 on iTunes).

Was in the featured CD section last week at Newbury Comics in Providence RI, also for $8

I'm still baffled by why "the band" chose such an awful name to replace their original "Charlie Everywhere" or whatever. Phantomgram is such a horrible, joke name. Will definitely cost them... Oh, well. Good luck. I think they stand a decent chance of "making it" despite the moniker.

The music is quite good, particularly the first couple tracks. The album cover photo is beautiful. Anyone know who did the cover work?

Actually they HAD to change their name legally from Charlie Everywhere to Phantogram. You try finding a band name that isn't already taken... good luck bro. And believe me they're going to awesome no matter what they're name is.

The Scoop

For a decade All Over Albany was a place for interested and interesting people in New York's Capital Region. It was kind of like having a smart, savvy friend who could help you find out what's up. AOA stopped publishing at the end of 2018.
