A melancholy Schenectady
We came across this song called "Schenectady" by the Brooklyn-based alt-country band Yarn this week (you can hear the song at that first link). From the lyrics:
I see people go crazy Get lazy when their life Ain't got nothing to loseYou're better off dyin
Then whining
Cause this towns got too many of youOh Schenectady
I've been waiting so long for you to comfort
But that boy has moved on
Oh I can't escape the past, no
And I won't forget the truth, no
Schenectady
I am you
The song was written by Yarn's frontman, Blake Christiana, who grew up in Schenectady. As the band notes on the Facebook page for the song: "The lyrics are less then complimentary and are not intended to beat up on Schenectady, but rather to express what Blake's feelings were while writing the song. We encourage reaction of any sort." The song is on the band's upcoming album, called Come On In.

Schenectady's always getting sh*t on. I think it's time for a new dirty, ghetto, saw it's prime 100 years ago town to make fun of.
My nominees, in no special order: Watervliet, Rensselaer, Cohoes, Lansingburgh, Amsterdam, Green Island, Berne-Knox but NOT Westerlo, Hudson, Hoosick Falls, Glens Falls and Fonda-Fultonville.

They recently played the Red Square and we (sgt dunbar) played with them on tour in DC at a place called the Red and the Black. I guess I didn't pay close enough attention to notice the song, or maybe they didn't play it.
