Another possible local Refresh grant winner

It looks like former UAlbany football player Danny Bocanegra's SelflessTee project finished in the money for a $50k grant from the Pepsi Refresh project (the top 10 finishers get funded -- Pepsi hasn't confirmed the finish on the site, yet).

Here's the video Bocanegra posted for the project, which he describes as a "fashionable apparel company on a social movement":

Back in February the Foundry -- and arts startup in Cohoes -- won $50k from Pepsi.

There are at least two four other local projects currently in the running for money:

+ The Contemporary Arts Center in Troy is trying to score $50k to help it renovate the Woodside Church.

+ And Jeffery Harrison, from Salem, is looking to get $25k to form a Northeast food bank for rescued horses.

+ The Play for Power Fund, based in Slingerlands, is looking to score $250k to fund a power-generating playground exhibit at the Schenectady Science Museum. It's hoped the technology can help villages in developing countries.

+ The Boys & Girls Clubs of Schenectady is hoping to get $50k to build a playground and garden.

Voting for the projects ends April 30.

(Thanks, Wendy and Ari!)

Very cool project that uses playground equipment to generate electricity and pump water. Demo project at my kids' school (Woodland Hill Montessori) and the plan is to build the playground at the Sinai Primary school in Babati, Tanzania this summer.

FYI: The Schenectady Boys and Girls club is also up for the running to build a new playground for their Craig Street building

The Scoop

For a decade All Over Albany was a place for interested and interesting people in New York's Capital Region. It was kind of like having a smart, savvy friend who could help you find out what's up. AOA stopped publishing at the end of 2018.
