What's up in the Neighborhood

The NeighborhoodAmong the topics in this most recent spin around the Capital Region's online neighborhood: people who can't be pleased, high heels, tax day, dog meetups, Cafe Capriccio, cotton candy, a sushi buffet, a sunglasses-wearing cupcake, a breakfast burrito, yarn, Rensselaer, auto body shops and the Tang.

Steve found out that you just can't please some people.

Kate told the story of a bunch of men in high heels.

The Exile found that a "cheerful in-it-together spirit" was lacking at the last chance post office on tax day.

Mark talked with the organizers of some local dog Meetup groups.

It sounds like DelSo had a great dinner at Cafe Capriccio's bar.

Mr. Dave got a pile of cotton candy for his birthday (and says he'd go back to the Glenmont Diner just for the Canadian bacon).

Nicole checked out the new Nikko sushi buffet.

Daniel B says Mrs. London's is the best bakery in the Capital Region.

FiS Dan came across a cupcake -- wearing sunglasses -- on the sidewalks of Saratoga.

Albany Jane dined with a silent beaver dinner guest.

CAPow had a "delicious" breakfast burrito at Manory's.

Bee Balm Gal checked out a new yarn store in Saratoga.

Dawn says she was "pleasantly surprised" by Riverfront Park in Rensselaer (though, no purple dinosaurs).

One of Kristi's readers asked about auto body shop recommendations.

Bennett says you should see the "awesome" Fred Tomaselli exhibit at the Tang.

Paula remembered Med-O-Land.

Help make Mechanicville look nice... People in Mechanicville have a lot of heart, and hopefully will respond to this positively. This is a town sitting on the shores of the Hudson River and it is due for a revival!

I just purchased property near the Bocce Ball courts (or as it is officially called, the "Padiglione Di Bocce") and I would like to start referring to this area as the Italian Cultural District of Mechanicville -- it give it a bit of 'panache' if we can get others to refer to it this way as well. Some people in the District ("The District" is how the locals should refer to it :)) take great care of their homes, while others do not because many of the properties are rentals.

I thought an easy, fun way to make The District look nicer would be if everyone planted sunflowers where they could be seen by passersby. Sunflower seeds are cheap and easy to grow... is anyone up for helping out by putting a few seeds in their soil? Maybe some 'guerilla' tactics, like planting them in places like near stop signs, or by the gazebo by the strip mall where Rite Aid is located?

Let's rally to the call and make Mechanicville and its Italian Cultural District a rgeat place to live!

The Scoop

For a decade All Over Albany was a place for interested and interesting people in New York's Capital Region. It was kind of like having a smart, savvy friend who could help you find out what's up. AOA stopped publishing at the end of 2018.

Albany tightened its rules for shoveling snowy sidewalks last winter -- so how'd that work out?
