Thanks, but no thanks, NFL
SI's Peter King talked with Stillwater native -- and University of New Hampshire star tight end -- Scott Sicko about passing on five different offers from NFL teams to sign training camp deals. As he told the TU's Mark McGuire: "I have to look at my life and decide what will make me the happiest. And the thing that will make me the happiest now and in the long run is to pursue my education."

While I respect this man's motivation to improve himself, I cannot imagine making this choice. League minimum in the NFL is like 250k or so, I think. He could pay for his master's thrice over from one year of play. Additionally, teaching will always be there. He won't be able to go back and become a world-class athlete later in life.
I can only imagine that the real reason he's doing this is that he just doesn't like playing ball anymore, which I guess is reasonable.

Yeah, I'd at the very least sign a contract and show up to camp. If you still didn't want to do it, no harm done. But to refuse that kind of money to play a game that you love? Man, I don't think I could do it, whatever the reasons...

Turns out he ended up signing with the Cowboys after all. Not sure on the signing bonus but I would bet its at least $10k... nice chunk of change for just a tryout!
