Free event in the park season

From an Onion story, datelined Niskayuna, NY: "A spokesperson for the nation's girlfriends countered that it would be a shame not to take advantage of the tons of cool-sounding cost-free events, which include a craft fair, an outdoor screening of The Wizard Of Oz, and the appearance of a modestly successful mid-90s alternative band at the Tulip Festival." I've actually seen The Onion mention Albany quite a bit over the years. I never know if I should be flattered or bothered that my city is a punchline.

LOVE IT!

I have a friend who's intimately connected to The Onion, I'll ask what the Albany connection is. To throw the Tulip Fest in is one thing, but to say there will be a modestly successful 90s alternative rock band playing? That's a homey who knows too well what it's all about.

Hah, that's awesome. Albany seems to pop up as the 'joke city' in a lot of tv stuff, too - I always assumed this was because writers based in NYC may be familiar with the area.

The Simpsons has used Albany a lot. I do enjoy a steamed ham!

There was a show about a year ago about a girl who lost her memory with a pretty long reference to the Karner Blue Butterfly and construction of Crossgates...

Scent of a Woman has an Albany diss too. Al Pacino puts a piece of paper in his mouth (containing a phone number to Albany) and he said "Uh, the phone number tastes like Albany".

Say Something!

We'd really like you to take part in the conversation here at All Over Albany. But we do have a few rules here. Don't worry, they're easy. The first: be kind. The second: treat everyone else with the same respect you'd like to see in return. Cool? Great, post away. Comments are moderated so it might take a little while for your comment to show up.
