They don't make jobs like they used to
A few interesting bits from a Rockefeller Institute report on manufacturing in New York State (admit it, you have irrepressible envy over our reading list): in 1960 there were more than two million manufacturing jobs in New York -- as of last year, there were fewer than 500k. Also: the biggest manufacturing center in the state, by number of jobs? New York City.

Maybe being a perennial bottom feeder on "most taxed state" and "least business friendly state" lists was more than just sour grapes from shadowy republican entities meant to discredit the bloated state government...

Remember NY politics 101 - no matter the problem, the solution is more taxes and more union friendly, business stifling regulation!

We could regain our manufacturing jobs in NYS fairly easily. Just pay workers what they're paid in China: average income in urban areas in 2009 was 18,858 yuan ($2,700), while in rural areas it was just 5,153 yuan ($752). Just ask the employees of Mott's how that's workin' out for 'em.
