My Exit: Larry Lewis
Every Monday night our friends at WEXT do this thing called My Exit -- local listeners get to come into the station and program an hour of music. So we thought it'd be fun to find out a little bit about these people and why they picked the songs on their play list.
Here's tonight's person:
Who?
I'm Larry Lewis. I'm originally from New York City. I went to school at Stony Brook and Indiana University and I've lived in Glenville for 28+ years. I am a chemist and I am married to the best science writer in the world, Ricki Lewis. I have three mostly grown daughters Heather, Sarah and Carly and a son Josh. I am a life-time runner, swimmer etc. AND I love playing (guitar and keyboards) and listening to music.
How would you describe your musical taste?
My main musical interests are classic rock, but I like the orchestra, folk, some jazz, country, pretty much anything with a melody. I don't like most techno, jam bands or hip hop.
A few songs from Larry's My Exit show:
In my set you will hear songs that mirror my life chronologically in music.
Jefferson Airplane -- Embryonic Journey.
his song was a theme song for one of the first album oriented rock radio stations in NYC, WNEW FM in the 1960s.
Lowen and Navarro -- 7 Bridges Home
These guys were frequent performers in the Capital District possibly because Eric Lowen spent some time growing up around here. Eric is now suffering from ALS, a devastating disease with no known cure. Dan Navarro is soldiering on with a bunch of projects. 7 Bridges Home refers to Eric traveling from somewhere back to the North Country and thus the song is beautiful and has a local connection.
The Who (Quadrophenia) -- Rain O'er Me.
I have always been a Who fan and I think Quadrophenia was their best album and the last song is unbelievable. I heard Heart do Rain O'er me at SPAC and was blown away.
I hope you enjoy the music!
You can hear Larry's My Exit show tonight at 8 on 97.7 or at exit977.org.
Say Something!
We'd really like you to take part in the conversation here at All Over Albany. But we do have a few rules here. Don't worry, they're easy. The first: be kind. The second: treat everyone else with the same respect you'd like to see in return. Cool? Great, post away. Comments are moderated so it might take a little while for your comment to show up. Thanks for being patient.

Always happy to see another who loves The Who. I'll be tuning in!

Larry is an inspiration for many musicians at GE, having pioneered an ongoing Open Mike series - it's a testament to his talent that it continues years after he managed to find a successor! He's always witty during our noontime runs, and it'll be interesting to see how he sounds as a DJ!
