The week ahead

Here are a few things to keep in mind, look ahead to, or take care of this week -- from the weather to music to politics to... dry cleaning.

Weather

This week's weather looks pretty good for mid-to-late October -- sunny with highs near 60 to start the week, and then a little cooler with some chance of rain by the end of the week.

Politicking

The gubernatorial debate is Monday night. All seven of the candidates in the running are lined up for this exchange:

Charles Barron (Freedom Party)
Andrew Cuomo (Democratic Party)
Kristin Davis (Anti-Prohibition Party)
Howie Hawkins (Green Party)
Jimmy McMillan (Rent is too Damn High Party)
Carl Paladino (Republican Party)
Warren Redlich (Libertarian Party)

There are two ways to look at this situation. On one hand, the "third" party candidates will get a chance for some exposure with the voters and democracy could be better for it. On the other hand, this lineup looks like a reality show cast -- and the debate could be a circus. The debate starts at 7 pm. You can watch it on YNN and online (details at that link).

Also: Scott Murphy and Chris Gibson debate Thursday night on WHMT. And Kirsten Gillibrand and Joe DioGuardi will also debate that night on YNN.

Listen, Watch, Laugh

+ Company of Thieves is at Jillians Monday night. $10

+ The musical stage show version of Mel Brooks' Young Frankenstein starts a run at Proctors on Tuesday. Tickets start at $20.

+ Comedian Louis CK is at the Palace Theater Saturday night. He's been in a few films and TV shows lately, including Parks and Recreation. He also made the observation on the then-Conan O'Brien Tonight Show last year that "everything is amazing right now and no one is happy" -- the clip's been watched about a zillion times on YouTube. Tickets start at $24.50.

+ Railbird, Cuddle Magic and Matthew Carefully are at Proctors Saturday night. $15 ($12 ahead)

Salon.com co-founder Scott Rosenberg will be giving a talk at St. Rose Wednesday evening as part of the Frequency North series. He's the author of Say Everything: How Blogging Began, What It's Becoming, and Why It Matters.

Winter's not that far off...

If you've been meaning to get the furnace checked, dry clean your winter coat or some other sort of winter prep -- get to it! Better now than, well, after it's snowed.

By the way, we're trying out this type of post. It's probably about halfway there. Any thoughts on making it better?

i LOVE this type of post. gives me something to look forward to for the long week ahead! maybe if any fun food goings on are happening? or a link to the supermarket flyers (what's on sale)? wait - i might be the only one to want the second one. or both.

This is a great idea! I especially like the addendum. Dry cleaning, winter cleaning ... just a nice reminder about doing those types of things. It's motivation, which makes me feel productive (if I actually follow through - but knowing is half the battle!)

Thumbs up for this post idea!

How about a pre-weekend planner that would say if there was a "big" event coming up this weekend like Lark Fest, Tulip Fest. etc. Something that would be nice to be reminded about prior to Friday.

Ooh, you could also add a "Things to look forward to on alloveralbany.com" for the week!

How about one better: Can we just get the week's worth of posts in one day? That way we can read it all Monday afternoon when nothing gets done and everyones happy?

Seriously though I like it. Now I can see all of the things coming up that I know I can't make it to instead of hearing about them afterwards and saying damn, I wish I went to that.

Say Something!

We'd really like you to take part in the conversation here at All Over Albany. But we do have a few rules here. Don't worry, they're easy. The first: be kind. The second: treat everyone else with the same respect you'd like to see in return. Cool? Great, post away. Comments are moderated so it might take a little while for your comment to show up. Thanks for being patient.

All Over Albany is for interested and interesting people in New York's Capital Region. In other words, it's for you. It's kind of like having a smart, savvy friend who can help you find out what's up. Oh, and our friends call us AOA.
