The week ahead

Sadly, we don't think OK Go will be bringing the dogs. Or the goat.

Here are a few things to keep in mind, look ahead to, or take care of this week -- from the weather (surprising) to Mythbusting to music to squash slicing.

Weather

It's a good news/bad news situation. First, the good -- for late October, it's going to be warm. Now, the bad -- it could also be kind of wet and cloudy. Here's the paraphrased forecast:

Monday: High in the upper 60s, clouds, maybe some rain during the night.
Tuesday: Almost freakishly warm -- highs in the mid-70s. Some sun. Maybe some drizzle.
Wednesday: Still warm -- highs around 70. Cloudy.
Thursday: Cooler -- highs around 60. Sunny.
Friday: Cooler again -- highs around 50. Some sun.
Weekend: Highs in the 50s.

Arts and Sciences

+ Sapphire -- the author of the novel upon which the film Precious was based -- will be at UAlbany's Page Hall (downtown campus) Tuesday evening as part the New York State Writers Institute series. Here's an NPR interview with the Sapphire from last year.

+ Grant Imahara -- from the nerdtastic show Mythbusters -- will be at the Sage campus in Albany Thursday night for a Q&A. $7 for the general public, $5 for college students

Listen

halloween freakout 2010

+ Frankie Rose and the Outs are at Valentine's Monday night. Their sound is dreamy, kind of spacey girl group pop.

+ OK Go is at Northern Lights Wednesday night. There are opening acts you might want to make sure you're there to catch: Eytan & The Embassy, as well as Those Darlins. $15 ahead, $17 day of

+ The annual Halloween Freak-out is at Valentine's Friday night. There's a great slate of locals lined up: Beware! The Other Head of Science, Sea of Trees, Around the World and Back, Sgt Dunbar.

Party

Matt Baumgartner and Chris Pratt's annual Halloween party is Friday night (not actually Halloween) at the Washington Park Lake House. Tickets are $30/person ahead of time ($40 at the door). Costumes are mandatory. And there's an open bar.

To-do list

Halloween is Sunday night, so that means this week's to-do list has three items:

1. Get crackin' on finding a pumpkin. Carve said pumpkin.

2. If you're rolling with a costume, get that together.

3. Buy candy for the trick-or-treaters. We recommend getting something you'll like, too. Unless, of course, you don't want to the eat the leftovers -- in that case, get candy corn. No one likes candy corn.

As we mentioned last week, this "week ahead" post is a new feature we're testing. Got ideas on how to make it better? Or just have something to add for this week? Let's hear it!

Comments

*I* like candy corn... but I like other things better.

I've heard that while these particular dogs will not be coming, there may be dogs with OK Go. They may have been joking, but I secretly hope that they are not.

Woof!

The 3rd Annual Halloween Freak-Out will also be having a costume contest, be sure to dress up, there was some serious competition last year!

let us know you're coming!

Just wanted to give feedback. Keep "doin' the week ahead". It relieves my case of the moondays.

Rocky Horror Picture Show is tonight at the Palace. 5 bucks, with live actors!

Micheal Franti was at Northern Lights tonight, but the show got cancelled due to a "medical emergency".

Say Something!

We'd really like you to take part in the conversation here at All Over Albany. But we do have a few rules here. Don't worry, they're easy. The first: be kind. The second: treat everyone else with the same respect you'd like to see in return. Cool? Great, post away. Comments are moderated so it might take a little while for your comment to show up. Thanks for being patient.
