What's up in the Neighborhood

The NeighborhoodAmong the topics in this most recent spin around the Capital Region's online neighborhood: Miss Albany, wild things, Election Day wisdom, llamas, Halloween, a trail race, meatballs, barbecue, containers, cupcakes, a walking stick and a Parisian bandit.

People at Steve's site posted memories of Cliff Brown, the owner of the Miss Albany Diner. He passed away recently.

Akum considered the former wildness of her neighborhood.

Rob share some Election Day wisdom.

Election Day had Kevin thinking about "haircuts and blowhards."

It looks like people had a lot of fun at the Simpler Living llama meetup.

Michelle's looking for suggestions about where to rent tables and whatnot for a party.

It sounds like Silvia had a great time as Joan Holloway at the Washington Park Lakehouse Halloween party.

Jen ran the Squirrelly Six Mile Trail Race at Thacher Park (there were gorillas, too).

Rebecca had dinner at the Moon and River Cafe in Schenectady.

Albany Jane's "Day of Tasty Things" included meatballs, cannoli and wings.

Jerry had a disappointing experience at Justin's.

Daniel B. liked the barbecue at Rubbin' Butts in Schenectady but... the microwaves.

Kristi was annoyed by the container charge tacked onto her order from D'Raymonds.

Rochelle got cupcakes from Fresh Market with a "perfect" icing to cake ratio.

Leah the Nosher got her last CSA box of the season from Denison.

Matt got an enormous cupcake from the Schuyler Bakery.

Paula looked into the history of a building that caught fire on State Street in downtown Albany this week.

The Skidmore Unofficial Executive Editor had a few issues with an AOL story about Skidmore.

Jackie came across a walking stick insect on the Zim Smith Trail.

The Exile snapped some foggy photos in the Corning Preserve.

Bennett has a very Alton Brown-esque method for cutting a pumpkin.

Chuck put his Kodachrome film to good use for fall foliage pics.

And it's a Parisian Bandit!

Thanks for the link-up - gotta love this Kodachrome film!

By what reckoning is Cobleskill considered "outside Schenectady"- it's a 40 minute drive minimum. That's like saying Saratoga is outside Albany.

Thanks for the link love as always. I'm a little flattered at the pseudocomparison to Alton Brown. Now, I don't really know that hacksaw blades are food-grade but then again, nobody likes a pinkie in their pumpkin pie. At least nobody I know.

Thanks for the link, Mary & Greg. (We're looking for a squirrel costume for Bandit for next year.)

Say Something!

We'd really like you to take part in the conversation here at All Over Albany. But we do have a few rules here. Don't worry, they're easy. The first: be kind. The second: treat everyone else with the same respect you'd like to see in return. Cool? Great, post away. Comments are moderated so it might take a little while for your comment to show up. Thanks for being patient.
