Here are a few things to keep in mind, look ahead to, or take care of this week -- from the weather (wet), to poetry, to chainsaws, to music to flu shots.

Weather

Well, it's not last week's weather. But it is November -- and this doesn't look too bad. Here's the paraphrased forecast:

Today: Cloudy. Highs in the mid-50s. A chance of rain
Tuesday: About the same. More chance of rain.
Wednesday: Rainy. But not too cold -- highs again in the mid-50s.
Thursday: Cloudy. A bit cooler.
Friday: Sunny, but cooler still. Highs in the low 40s.
Weekend: Sunny. Highs in the high-40s.

Look and Listen

b3nson funsgiving 2010+ The "Uncertain Spectator" exhibition opens at EMPAC on Thursday. The blurb says the genre-spanning exhibition "asks individuals to cross a threshold -- to place themselves in situations riddled with tension, confront deeply charged emotional content, and grapple with feelings of apprehension." Thursday's opening includes a performance by the Troy Chainsaw Ensemble, a screening of Lars von Trier's Dancer in the Dark, and free snacks. Free

+ The "Courier" exhibit at the UAlbany art museum closes December 4, so if you were thinking of checking it out -- this might be the week to do it. From the blurb: "Courier brings together a range of contemporary artists who have created works that are rooted in the physical, communicative, or iconic properties of the typewriter." The museum is open until 8 pm on Tuesday, Wednesday through Friday until 5 pm and noon-4 pm on Saturday.

+ The annual B3nson Family Funsgiving is at Valentine's Thursday night. The local music collective has a big show lined up: We Are Jeneric, If Madrid, Scientific Maps, Que Caro, Barons in the Attic, Sgt Dunbar, and Beware! The Other Head of Science. $10 at the door, $8 with a non-perishable food item

Arts and Sciences

+ New York's state poet, Jean Valentine, will be reading at the Albany Public Library's main branch Tuesday night at 7:30 pm as part of the New York State Writers Institute series. Free

+ Tapped, a documentary about "the unregulated and unseen world" of the bottled water industry, is playing at the Linda Thursday night as part of the Honest Weight Food Co-op's "Food For Thought" series. Reception at 6pm, film at 7pm. $6

To-do list

It's time to make sure we're generally prepped for the next few weeks.

1. We've already had some snow and you know there's more of that to come. So get your shovels and salt ready. Don't have a shovel for your car trunk? Get one. Find your boots, mittens, gloves, scarves and all manner of warm outerwear.

2. We mentioned this last week, but it's worth repeating -- line up your Thanksgiving stuff ASAP (travel plans, food orders, etc)

3. Get a flu shot. The flu season will be cranked up before you know it. The feds have posted an online flu shot finder.

These are just a few things to keep in mind for the week. Be sure to check out our "Stuff to do this weekend" post on Friday.

Should have mentioned that For Love of Wine is in Crossgates a few doors down from Borders.

The Scoop

For a decade All Over Albany was a place for interested and interesting people in New York's Capital Region. It was kind of like having a smart, savvy friend who could help you find out what's up. AOA stopped publishing at the end of 2018.
