The week ahead

free energy bandHere are a few things to keep in mind, look ahead to, or take care of this week -- from the weather (colder), to music, to trotting, to giving thanks.

Weather

It's not looking great. But for the second half of November, it could be worse. Here's the paraphrased forecast:

Monday: Chance of rain. Highs in the low 50s.
Tuesday: Rain. Highs in mid-50s.
Wednesday: Sunny and breezy. Colder. Highs in the mid-40s.
Thanksgiving: Cloudy. Colder. Highs around 40. A chance of rain and snow in the evening.
Friday: Continued chance of rain and snow. Highs around 40.
Weekend: Partly sunny. Colder. Highs in the upper 30s.

Listen

+ Philadelphia indie pop rock group Free Energy (that's them up on the right) is at Valentine's Monday night. Their album was produced by LCD Soundsystem's James Murphy. $10 at the door

+ Aaron Goldfarb, author of the satirical anti-self-help book How to Fail, will be reading at Jillian's Tuesday night. Apparently his book parties feature a lesson in how to fail at being sober.

+ There's a benefit show for WCDB Wednesday night at Valentine's. Eric Margan, Slender Shoulders, Life Among The Trees, and The Emergency Empire are on the slate. $7 -- and there's going to be turkey.

+ Genre-spanning musician Ember Swift is at Caffe Lena Wednesday night. Her music mixes jazz, swing, R&B, funk, pop, folk-rock, blues, and French cabaret -- in English, French and Mandarin. $16

Pre-burn calories

The 63rd annual Troy Turkey Trot is Thanksgiving morning. About 6,000 people are expected take part in various events. Races includes a 10k, 5k, open walk and mile run for kids. Registration closes at noon on Wednesday.

Not cooking

If you're not up for cooking on Thanksgiving, a lot of local restaurants will be open. Steve has collected Thanksgiving specials from a bunch of places.

To-do list

This week's easy:

1. Spend time with friends and family.

2. Give thanks.
