The week ahead

Matisyahu's celebrating Hanukkah at Northern Lights.

Here are a few things to keep in mind, look ahead to, or take care of this week -- from the weather (wet), to the holidays, to music, to strolling.

Weather

Wednesday marks the first day of December. And for December, this is nothing. Here's the paraphrased forecast:

Monday: Sunny. Highs in the mid-40s
Tuesday: Cloudy. A touch warmer. Rain in the late afternoon, evening.
Wednesday: Rain and lots of it. Warm -- highs in the 50s. Depending on how temps shake out in the evening, there could be snow.
Thursday: Some sun. Colder. Highs in the upper 30s.
Friday: About the same.
Weekend: Partly sunny/cloudy. Highs in the mid 30s.

Light the menorah

Hanukkah starts Wednesday evening. Here's a bit about the origins of the holiday. And here's a recipe for latkes.

Listen

+ Matisyahu's "Festival of Light" tour -- a tribute to Hanukkah -- is at Northern Lights Wednesday. The tour in previous years has included a disco ball in the shape of a dreidel. And the Hasidic reggae singer has a written a new song this year for the holiday. $23 ahead, $25 day of

+ Drink Up Buttercup is at Valentine's Wednesday night with Sgt Dunbar, and Barons in the Attic, and Steer.

Great job!

Tim and Eric of Adult Swim's "Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!" will be at Northern Lights Tuesday. $20 ahead, $22 day of

Arts and Sciences

Williams College astronomer Jay Pasachoff will be giving a talk on solar eclipses Tuesday at Proctors as part of the Dudley Observatory Skywatch Lectures series. $11

Stroll

This year's Victorian Streetwalk in Saratoga Springs is Thursday night. Troy's Victorian Stroll is Sunday.

Eyeing the weekend

Quickly, a few glances ahead to the weekend: Sean Griffin's Cold Spring at EMPAC, the Northeast Ballet Company's annual performance of The Nutcracker at Proctors, the Albany Symphony Orchestra's annual "Magic of Christmas" concert at The Palace.

To-do list

1. If you were thinking about getting a new winter coat, stop procrastinating.

2. It's time to start checking off entries on your holiday gift list. Better now than before the crunch.

These are a just a few things for this week. Be sure to check our "Stuff to do this weekend" post on Friday.

Know of something people should be looking forward to this week? Please share!
