The week ahead

santa speedo 2009 gd21

Jump for joy. The Santa Speedo Sprint is back.

Here are a few things to keep in mind, look ahead to, or take care of this week -- from the weather (cold), to sprinting, to chamber indie rock to sci-fi with dancing.

Weather

Hello, December. Here's the paraphrased forecast:

Monday: Cold. Chance of a bit of snow. Highs in the low 30s.
Tuesday: About the same.
Wednesday: Sunnier, but a touch colder. Small chance of snow.
Thursday: Sunny. Cold. Highs around 30.
Friday: A bit warmer. Some chance of snow.
Weekend: Cloudy. Temps in the mid 30s.

Santa Speedo Sprint

The 5th annual Santa Speedo Sprint is Saturday on Lark Street. Here are a bunch of photos from last year. This is a really fun event -- and the proceeds go to support the Albany Damien Center. The race starts around 2 pm (show up a little early). And there's still time to enter...

Also, members of the Albany Society for the Advancement of Philanthropy -- the organizers of the sprint -- will be guest bartending Monday night at Dale Miller to raise money for the event.

Music

+ Chamber indie rock group Ra Ra Riot is at Jillians Monday night. This is a quality show. And it's just $5.

+ Rufus Wainwright is playing at The Egg Thursday night. Tickets start at $34.50.

+ The Figgs' annual holiday show is Friday night at Valentie's -- with the Charlie Watts Riots. And Blue Factory is playing the happy hour earlier that evening.

Robots and dancing

This week Proctors is showing the Indian sci-fi film Endhiran (Robot), the most expensive Indian film ever made. It was directed by Shankar and the cast includes Rajinikanth, an icon of Indian cinema, and the world's most beautiful woman, Aishwarya Rai. The trailer is embedded above. It looks crazy. And the reviews seem to indicate it is -- in the good way.

There are screenings Tuesday and Wednesday. Tickets are $6.

To-do list

This week's easy:

1. How's the snow brush for your car? You can't find it? Get one. There will be snow.

2. Keep cracking on that holiday gift list.

3. Got plans for New Year's Eve? It's not a bad idea to plan now.

These are a just a few things for this week. Be sure to check our "Stuff to do this weekend" post on Friday.

The Scoop

For a decade All Over Albany was a place for interested and interesting people in New York's Capital Region. It was kind of like having a smart, savvy friend who could help you find out what's up. AOA stopped publishing at the end of 2018.
