A Rainbow Bug of your very own

Apparently actual VW Bugs in this paint job are also in the works.

The FagBug can now fit in the palm of your hand. Erin Davies' VW Bug/rolling social message has been turned into a toy -- the Rainbow Bug.

After her car was vandalized with the word "fag" in red spray paint outside her Albany apartment in 2007, Davies set out on a tour of the United States to prompt discussions about homophobia. Volskwagen eventually hopped on board as a sponsor and hooked her up with the custom rainbow paint job. Davies also made a documentary about her experiences.

Erin_in_the_fagbug.jpgAs she told Jess in 2008:

"It's personal, but it's also an experience for others to see. It's a journey ... People don't have to care about me personally, or my feelings or any of that, but the point is this journey I've taken and just how most people have never really seen this kind of thing before."

After Davies returned from her trip, it wasn't uncommon to see the FagBug around town (it was hard to miss). We heard from Davies this week that's she's now moved to Syracuse.

Say Something!

We'd really like you to take part in the conversation here at All Over Albany. But we do have a few rules here. Don't worry, they're easy. The first: be kind. The second: treat everyone else with the same respect you'd like to see in return. Cool? Great, post away. Comments are moderated so it might take a little while for your comment to show up. Thanks for being patient.

All Over Albany is for interested and interesting people in New York's Capital Region. In other words, it's for you. It's kind of like having a smart, savvy friend who can help you find out what's up. Oh, and our friends call us AOA.
