Putting apples to good use

Harvest Spirits in Valatie is featured in an NYT story today about craft distilleries in New York (including a great photo of founder Derek Grout). From this past summer: Poking around at Harvest Spirits

It is great to see these guys get the attention they deserve.

Seb and I visited there a few weeks ago on a stop for cider donuts (great, inexpensive donuts there BTW, and they also have quince jelly, which has become sort of a running joke now -- though we have not tried the two together, yet). Of course we took a couple photos, mine; his.

Tried a grappa they were working on, it was excellent, not that I am any kind of grappa aficionado. They are really working a craft diligently and with some passion, so it's great to see success. Like Coco says, "if you work really hard and you're kind, amazing things will happen."

Just bought my parents bottles of the pear and apple brandies--let's hope they're as good as they sound!

And if they aren't, I'm coming for you, New York Times. *shakes tiny fist*

The Scoop

Albany tightened its rules for shoveling snowy sidewalks last winter -- so how'd that work out?
