Beers and Books

Ned is starting up a "Beers and Books" night at McGeary's. The first selection: The Unnamed by Joshua Ferris. He writes: "Think back to a time when everyone was reading the same book without the need of a book club (which this is not) and it was something that was spoken about at cocktail parties." Also: "for those of you who are single, think about it this way, if they are going to be here, you know that they like beer ... and that they are able to read ... I think that may be the foundation for a relationship that eHarmony would be jealous of."

Thank you for mentioning this!

My hope that there will be enough interest that it becomes a regular thing.

cool idea..altho i'm not sure why it's described as "not being a book club"...when it clearly is. ;)

I want to join!

I picked that book up from the library last week - at least the readers can wallow in their cups together instead of alone with that depressing book!

@Kim D It's not a book club because I am not looking to be the moderator and I don't like the idea of the whole speak your point, someone else speaks and the conversation moves in a linear fashion.

I want it to be more like a cocktail party with the theme that people have read, or have attempted to read, or at least rented or purchased, the book.

Man, they took my idea for my bookstore!

The Scoop

Albany tightened its rules for shoveling snowy sidewalks last winter -- so how'd that work out?

If winter ever gets its act together and drops more snow on us, there will be sidewalks to shovel. And shortly after that, Albany will... (more)
