Shows. With music. That are coming up.

Iron and Wine and a peacock

Sam Beam. You may know him as Iron and Wine.

There are bunch of shows coming up that could be fun/look interesting: indie pop, Balkan funk, shoegaze grunge, 90s alt rock, tenors, blues guitar, Spanish guitar, and great locals.

Here are a few you might keep in mind when organizing your calendar of music show going...

February 11: Hank and Cupcakes at Red Square
As it happens, his name's not actually "Hank," nor is hers "Cupcake."

February 18: Alta Mira at Valentine's
with Ashley Pond Band, Ben Karis-Nix, Holly and Evan
A good lineup of locals: Alta Mira is newly Kickstarted, and we hear Ben KN will be playing new stuff. And, what, you haven't heard Ashley Pond? You need to address that.

February 19: Trey Anastasio at The Palace
Phish-y.

February 19: Slavic Soul Party at Proctors
Funky Balkan music fused with New Orleans jazz.

February 19: The Canadian Tenors at the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall
They're dreamy. Your mom might already have tickets.

February 20: Sgt Dunbar and The Loom at Valentine's
with Life Among the Trees and Wailing Wall
The Loom is back up from Brooklyn, and Sgt Dunbar will be getting tuned up ahead of SXSW.

February 20: Flogging Molly at Northern Lights
Ready the Guinness.

February 25: Railbird and Sean Rowe at 431 Delaware Ave
It's a release party for both -- Sean Rowe's "Magic" on Anti- and Railbird's "No One" album.

March 12: Melissa Auf der Maur at Helsinki Hudson
She survived five years with Courtney Love. That's gotta count for something.

March 26: The Joy Formidable at Valentine's
An indie "shoegaze-grunge hybrid" band from Wales that sounds like the 90s.

March 30: Tim Reynolds at St. Rose's Massry Center
The long-time Dave Matthews collaborator, playing solo.

March 31: Buddy Guy at The Egg
He's a blues guitar legend.

April 1: Toad the Wet Sprocket at The Egg
It'll be just like high school or college.

April 5: Tokyo Police Club at Jillian's
The indie pop rock group from the Toronto area is all grown up (you know, they're like 23 now). And their English is good.

April 9: The Guitar Orchestra of Barcelona at The Troy Savings Bank Music Hall
25 Spanish guitarists doing their thing.

April 16: Iron and Wine at MASS MoCA
You might want to get tickets sooner rather than later.

April 17: Septeto Nacional Ignacio Piñeiro de Cuba at the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall
Acoustic rhumba from a Cuban group more than 80 years old (an incarnation way back in the day once played for Gershwin).

April 28,29,30: Francisco López: Hyper-Rainforest at EMPAC
An electronic musical work developed at EMPAC using rainforest sounds.
____

This isn't a comprehensive list of every show that's coming through town (obviously). If you know of one worth pointing out, please do!

The Palace, Troy Savings Bank Music Hall and EMPAC have all advertised with AOA at some point.

The Scoop

For a decade All Over Albany was a place for interested and interesting people in New York's Capital Region. It was kind of like having a smart, savvy friend who could help you find out what's up. AOA stopped publishing at the end of 2018.
