Jennifer Maher's toy portraits on Dooce

jennifer maher toy portraits croppedCheck it out: a toy portrait by local artist Jennifer Maher was featured today on Dooce. That would be Heather Armstrong's site. You may know her as "queen of the mommy bloggers" (NYT's phrase, not ours). Or, from farther back, that person who lost her job because of her blog and is now a one-woman media empire.

Writes Armstrong:

Be sure to check out [Jennifer's] portfolio. People are always asking me what they should get a friend's baby when they turn a year old. THIS IS PERFECT. The baby doesn't care about the birthday, the parent does. And in ten years when I look at this portrait I will collapse into uncontrollable weeping.

We talked with Jennifer a few years back about her portraits -- they're super cute.

This is a cool twist on the "keep a photo of something you love instead of keeping the object" school of decluttering.

p.s. I like the hamster painting in your Q&A with her.

if you check out her site there's a different painting involving those two, hamtaro looks so excited in it
