Camp Little Notch

Dani at Moderate Oven has a lovely post about her time working at Camp Little Notch, the former Girl Scout camp near Lake George. The property was recently acquired by the Open Space Institute, in partnership with an org called Friends of Camp Little Notch. The org is made up of camp alumnnae, and it's working to re-open the property to campers.

Thank you, AOA! Saving this property was a major accomplishment, and getting it ready for campers again will take a lot of work. I just want to note the vision of Friends of CLN is to open the property not just as a traditional girls camp, but as a community resource open to all, and hopefully more closely tied with the Capital District community than it was as a Scout facility. Thanks again for helping us get the word out.

If you have been to the downtown museum and seen the huge photograph of the iron furnace on the wall, you should be delighted to know that it is on Little Notch property. Now that Little Notch will be more open to the public, you will be able to go on a rather lovely hike and see the actual furnace.

Thanks for this post. I have so many memories of my summers at Little Notch. I'd love to be able to send my (future) kids there some day!

Thank you so much for posting this piece. As a representative of Friends of Camp Little Notch, I want to invite anyone who is inspired by this story to be a part of our journey. Little Notch is a place where we all people will have the opportunity to practice living in harmony with nature, each other, and themselves. Come join us this summer for our work sessions if you want to work hard, laugh, become a part of a beautiful community.

So exciting! I have so many fabulous memories as a young girl there. Does anyone else remember the ghost stories? I look forward to visiting the place again soon.

The Scoop

For a decade All Over Albany was a place for interested and interesting people in New York's Capital Region. It was kind of like having a smart, savvy friend who could help you find out what's up. AOA stopped publishing at the end of 2018.
