Kegs and Eggs riot now officially embarrassing to everyone

The Times Union reports that the 18-year-old who turned himself in after seeing the riot images posted by the APD is the son of a top New York Daily News editor -- that would be the same paper that published an editorial yesterday criticizing parents and SUNY college officials for accepting "an anything-goes atmosphere." This incident just keeps spraying embarrassment everywhere.

NY Daily News: egg, meet face.

Best line:

Bob Sapio, the senior executive editor of the New York Daily News, who told the Times Union on Thursday, "I'm going to kill him."

If I were a student at a university where a major, newsworthy event occurred (good, bad or indifferent), I can guarantee that my parents would have called me to (1) see what is really going on, and (2) get my reaction to whatever it is.

I would have thought that if Bob Sapio had that conversation with his son (even if it's, "Hey... how 'bout that riot?"), the son would have made some allusion to the fact that he was not an angelic bystander to the events. Granted, he may not have realized at the time that he was in danger of being identified/busted, but I would think that he would make some reference to having participated in some way (regardless of how minimal he may have thought it was) in the "festivities".

I feel badly that the dad, as a public figure, has to deal with the embarrassment, and I respect the fact that he's not making excuses for his son or trying to claim the "boys will be boys" defense, but after reading that editorial blaming the parents, I would like to see him take a little responsibility, too.

That "I'm going to kill him" line, which is no doubt taken out of context, probably constitutes a felony in and of itself! But I admit I had to ask my own son if he was involved down there before I started spouting about what a mess it was.

Another thought...now the owner of that Maxima has a deep pocket to go after!

This story just gets better and better all the time!! You couldn't make this stuff up if you tried - classic.

haha the daily news... just a step above the ny post... just a step below the national enquirer. I think SUNY will be ok...

It doesn't get any more ironic then that!

Episodes of karmic retribution such as this just warm the soul, don't they?

The Scoop

For a decade All Over Albany was a place for interested and interesting people in New York's Capital Region. It was kind of like having a smart, savvy friend who could help you find out what's up. AOA stopped publishing at the end of 2018.
