UAlbany announced last week that it will "transition" its French, Russian and theater programs from majors into minors. The announcement last fall that the university was suspending enrollment in the programs because of a budget crunch caused a flare of criticism, both locally and nationally. A UAlbany professor of French studies told the Times Union he thinks that last week's announcement is a "half-measure" and a sign the school's administration realized it made a mistake.
