Business Insider recently compiled a list of "The 13 Richest Americans Ever." Number 10 on the list: Stephen Van Rensselaer -- heir to the patroonship of Rensselaerswyck and founder of the the Rensselaer School (now RPI) -- at an estimated, inflation-adjusted peak fortune of $68.5 billion. (Fortune came to the same conclusion, based on wealth as a percentage of GDP, in 2007.) [via @AtTroy]
