Shows. With music. That are coming up.

Ra Ra Riot. They just can't stay away.

There are bunch of shows coming up that could be fun/look interesting.

Here are a few you might keep in mind when organizing your calendar of music show going... from festivals to a farewell show to indie chamber pop to dixieland to electronica to jazz to Tchaikovsky to ukulele to a "multigenerational Justice League of Rock."

May 7: Phantogram at RPI
There were some public tickets allotted. But they might be gone -- as of Tuesday there were apparently fewer than 50 tickets remaining.

May 7: Reverend Horton Heat at Northern Lights
with Reverend Peyton's Big Band and Slick Fitty
Reportedly self-described as "country-fed punkabilly."

May 12: Neko Case at Bearsville Theater
She's worth the drive (it's only Woodstock).

May 12: An Horse at Valentine's
They're a duo from Australia. They've opened for Tegan and Sara, Deathcab, and Silversun Pickups. They sound like what you'd expect a band to sound like if they've opened for those bands.

May 21: Severe Severe at Red Square
with Alta Mira, Filmstrip, Company
Severe Severe has a new album.

May 28: Snoop Dogg at Northern Lights
A bit of a self-parody now. Here he is making mashed potatoes with Martha Stewart.

May 28: Rosanne Cash at MASS MoCA
Notable in her own right -- and good genes.

June 2-5: Mountain Jam
The lineup for the festival at Hunter Mountain includes Bela Fleck, The Avett Brothers, Mavis Staples, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, and My Morning Jacket. Single-day tickets are still available.

June 3: Ray Lamontagne at SPAC
Soulful singer/songwriter. (Aside: love the dog in that insurance commercial that uses his music.)

June 4: Beware! The Other Head of Science at Valentine's
with Barons in the Attic and Sgt Dunbar and the Hobo Banned
The farewell show for Beware! They expect a "one-of-a-kind (to say the least) and a unique, life-affirming experience (to say too much)." Also: "expect a longer-than-usual set and be sure to consume plenty of fluids beforehand to ensure your ability to dance, sing, raise your glasses and party with BEWARE! one last time!"

June 7: Saves the Day and The Get Up Kids at Northern Lights
It's like emo oldies night.

June 8: Alejandro Escovedo at Helsinki Hudson
Austin's eclectic icon.

June 8: James McMurtry at Valentine's
with Jonny Burke
Texas rock from Austin. Stephen King's a fan, apparently.

June 11: Dan Zanes and Elizabeth Mitchell at MASS MoCA
Kids music that parents can also like.

June 14: Sevendys at The Linda
with Sgt Dunbar and Bryan Thomas
Sevendys includes Jed Davis and a "multigenerational Justice League of Rock."

June 14: Company of Thieves at Northern Lights
One of those bands that just can't seem to stay away from the Capital Region. (Not that it's a bad thing.)

June 15: Elizabeth Cook at The Linda
A country singer with a voice that "sits nicely next to Dolly Parton's and Loretta Lynn's, as does her sense of humor and feminism." Also, apparently it sometimes takes balls to be a woman.

June 23: Ra Ra Riot at Ballston Spa's Wiswall Park
They're back. Indie chamber pop. And it's a free show.

June 24-26: Solid Sound Festival at MASS MoCA
The Wilco-curated festival includes a bunch of music and comedy curated (again with that word) by John Hodgman. The only tickets left are the 3-day pass.

June 25: Tuba Skinny at Bearsville Theater
"Tuba Skinny is a band that takes it's listeners back in time to the traditional dixieland jazz and old blues music of the nineteen twenties and thirties." That video above is them busking in New Orleans.

June 25-26: Jazz Festival at SPAC
This year's lineup includes Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings.

June 27: Peter Gabriel at SPAC
A hall of famer. And how about him covering the Vampire Weekend song that mentions... Peter Gabriel.

July 4: James Taylor at Tanglewood
One a handful of his performances there this summer -- and it's not sold out, yet. (Did you know: we was born in Lenox.)

July 7-9: Camp Bisco 10
This year's lineup includes Ratatat, DJ set featuring James Murphy (of LCD Soundsystem fame) and Pat Mahoney, Wiz Khalifa, Bassnectar, MSTRKRFT, Yeasayer, and the Disco Biscuits (of course -- it's their festival).

July 8: Jake Shimabukuro at The Egg
Shimabukuro is one of the world's best ukulele players. The clip of him covering "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" has been watched more than 8 million times on YouTube.

July 16: Buke and Gass at MASS MoCA
"Oddly catchy prog-punk" that was an All Songs Considered fave last year. And as Stereogum notes: "the buke is 'a self-modified six string baritone ukelele' and the gass is 'a guitar-bass hybrid.'"

July 22: Isle of Klezbos at The Linda
Ladies who klezmer. And test "the elasticity of the genre."

July 23: Streetlight Manifesto and Reel Big Fish at Northern Lights
Ska never really dies. Little-known fact: Reel Big Fish made more than one song.

July 23: Dr. John at The Mahaiwe
Funky hall of famer. Maybe the right place and right time for you to see him.

July 28-30: The Big Up Festival in Ghent
Electronic music and arts on a farm in Columbia County.

July 30: The Head and The Heart at Bearsville Theater
Folk pop from Seattle -- "a breakout success story just waiting to happen" and, possibly, Seattle's "next big band."

August 3: Philadelphia Orchestra with Yo-Yo Ma at SPAC
Hey, look, it's Yo-Yo Ma playing at the White House.

August 10: Philadelphia Orchestra with Branford Marsalis at SPAC
Jazz royalty.

August 13: Philly Orchestra's Tchaikovsky Spectacular at SPAC
Have you ever read about Tchaikovsky's life? Much turmoil.

August 20: Kings of Leon at SPAC
with Band of Horses
Did you know all the members of Kings of Leon are related to each other?

August 20: Film Night at Tanglewood
The Boston Pops, John Williams, and Morgan Freeman.

August 25: Brad Mehldau at Tanglewood
Acclaimed modern jazz pianist. And he has a thing for covering songs from other genres (example: "Paranoid Android")

And way ahead...

October 13: Andrew Bird at Troy Savings Bank Music Hall
with Dosh
Worth looking forward to, as noted already. Tickets on sale May 6.

So, that's a bunch of shows. But, obviously, not comprehensive. If there's something you're looking forward to, please share.

The Scoop

For a decade All Over Albany was a place for interested and interesting people in New York's Capital Region. It was kind of like having a smart, savvy friend who could help you find out what's up. AOA stopped publishing at the end of 2018.
