What should McDonald's look like?
Chris Churchill contrasts the city-prompted special design of the in-construction Saratoga Springs McDonald's with the proposed Troy McDonald's -- the design for which Kim lamented in a Sunday Soapbox a few weeks back. McDonald's tangent: Have you been to the re-constructed one on Delaware in Elsmere -- the interior is swank (well, swank for a McDonald's).

My favorite local McDonald's is the one on Central Avenue across from Bob & Ron's. If you've never been inside, you are missing something truly spectacular.
I did my best to capture its essence in a Yelp review:

This is a very important point in the article, made by a Saratoga Springs urban planner:
>>
Maynard and others note that Saratoga was struggling when it first committed to heightened design and planning principles. In their view, the city wouldn't be as successful today -- and as attractive to national chains -- had it not done so.
"Saratoga wasn't always Saratoga," Maynard said. "There was that determined stand that helped the city get to where it is."
