Bikes!

+ Mia Burk -- the former bicycle program manager for the city of Portland, Oregon, one the nation's most bike-friendly cities -- will be giving a talk at Union College Wednesday evening. She's written a book about the effort to turn Portland into a cycling hot spot. She's now the president of an urban planning firm in Portland. 7 pm at the Nott Memorial - free

+ The Troy Bike Rescue is celebrating its 10th anniversary this Saturday with a fundraiser at the Sanctuary for Independent Media. On the schedule: tours of the bike rescue's new space, a bike rodeo for kids, an art auction, and food. Starts at 2 pm, with events through 7:30 - $10-$25 suggestion donation

The Hangover, part deux

The sequel to The Hangover opens on Thursday this week. If you just really can't wait, a handful of local theaters -- including the Spectrum -- have showings lined up for midnight Wednesday (that is, very early Thursday morning).

Beethoven

Both Proctors and The Spectrum will be showing the Philadelphia Orchestra performing Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 and Stravinsky's Symphony of Psalms Monday night. check their websites for times and prices

Trapeze and taxidermy

Thursday at Helsinki Hudson: "XMALIA: Songs About Extinction with Trapeze and Taxidermy" by C. Ryder Cooley:

Xmalia plays entertaining elegiac tribute to extinct animals such as the Tasmanian Tiger, the Pyrenean Ibex and the Xerces Butterfly. This entertaining tragedy is hosted by a lonely mortician, who summons the animals back to life for her Graveyard Cabaret. Performed with ukulele, upright bass and singing saw. Ryder's special guests for the evening include Lady Moon, Rob Caldwell on Hurdy Gurdy, Yukari Roja, Pete Toigo, Gideon Crevoshay and Jeremy Thal.

+ The SwordPaw collective is having a housewarming show Tuesday at its new space in Troy. On the slate: Matthew Carefully, North America, Northern Water Snake. 7 pm - $5
