Duckling cuddle puddle

cuddling ducklings with mother

Nap time.

For no other reason than... CUDDLING DUCKLINGS!

It was a warm afternoon at Buckingham Pond in Albany, and the ducklings were very sleepy.

Are there more photos? Do you have to ask?

This made my day! I was cooing, squealing, and may or may not have pet my computer screen. Cubemates are very confused :-)

Omg they are the cutest!! :)

DUCKIEEEEEEEEEEEES

Eeeeeeeeee!!!

This is why AOA is my news source of choice.

OMG I LOVE THEM!!!!!!!

Really cute... Until they crap all over the grass and foul the pond water so that it turns green in August....

OMG! *dies of the cute*

@bill...I don't think the ~20 ducklings hold a candle to the hundreds of pounds of fertilizer (AKA crap) applied to the lawns surrounding the pond, or the hundreds of piles of dog poop that overwinters in the park. Enjoy the duckling it is a great way to get kids excited about nature.

Touche, Brian!

They're smiling! (I agree with Katie about this being why AOA is my favorite news source.)

Who needs chickens when we have ducks!!? (Just kidding!)

Ooh, I love seeing all of the single-serving-sized ducks this time of year. Adorable and mouth-watering!

According to the city, my domestic ducks are illegal and the fair citizens must be protected from them. Wait until they find out about this.

Yup, they're cute alright. Until, of course, something upsets them. The geese at the pond can be especially cantankerous, and often our bucolic evenings will be punctuated with a very loud HONK! HONK! HONK!!!!

The aerators installed in the pond (the "fountains") are actually there to oxygenate and mix the water to ameliorate algae growth. The pond itself is a natural body of water and isn't very deep. It reaches air temperature rather quickly, and since the sunlight can penetrate nearly to the bottom, algae can easily become a problem as the summer wears on. The pond receives a lot of surface runoff from storm drains and yes, overly manicured lawns which adds to the problem. Pooping ducks and geese are the least of the pond's worries...

mmmmmmmm, those will grow up to be tasty! I have been craving duck lately, does anyplace stock fresh duck?

My grandparents live a block from this pond and I grew up watching ducks there. So. Adorable. Thanks for the great start to the second half of my day! (you can tell based on that mess of a sentence how the first half has gone)

Baby ducks are so cute -- then they grow up and they're just pooping machines that quack too loud.

Thanks for the heads up. I'm taking my boys there tomorrow morning--they will love seeing the babies!
