My Exit: Brett Groff
WEXT's My Exit is back. Every Monday night local listeners get to come into the station and program an hour of music. We thought it'd be fun to find out a little bit about these people and why they picked the songs on their play list.
Here's this week's person...
Who?
Brett Groff. I'm from Saratoga Springs but I have lived all over the Capital Region and driven all over it doing freelance television production for the Times Union Center, SPAC, Bethel Woods and Tanglewood.
How would you describe your musical taste?
I enjoy all types of music except country, especially if it's real twangy. Don't get me wrong when Fountains Of Wayne or The Shins or any band that I like puts out a country sounding song, I love it. But if it comes from a country radio station, I say no thanks! I can listen to a driving rock song and then I can throw in a laid back reggae tune. If it's got a catchy melody, I'll be listening to it.
Songs from Brett's show:
"Bad Bad World" - Guster
Just a plain cool tune by a band that can write the catchiest of pop songs. This is such a positive song and it makes me feel happy every time that I hear it. See them live if you can, they're great!
"Way Down Here Without You" - Superdrag
Well, its my second show and since Superdrag is my second favorite artist I just had to go ahead and include another song! This one is even a little country sounding and would fall under the category of country I could listen to (see musical taste above). This is a welcome break from most of their rock sounding tracks. Check out Superdrag, I promise you won't be disappointed.
"The Worst Band In The World" - 10cc
A funny self-parody tune by one of the most creative bands from the 1970s. I think this song is band members Kevin Godley, Graham Gouldman, Lol Creme and Eric Stewart at their musical best.
"Take It Easy" - Surfer Blood
A new band that I found from an iTunes sampler and I just love this song. So catchy, it just makes me want to go out to the beach and surf even though I never have! California, here I come.
"Zither" - R.E.M.
Just a very pretty instrumental track from their album New Adventures In Hi-Fi.
You can hear Brett's My Exit show tonight at 8 on 97.7 or at exit977.org.
Here's how to schedule your own My Exit show on WEXT.
Say Something!
We'd really like you to take part in the conversation here at All Over Albany. But we do have a few rules here. Don't worry, they're easy. The first: be kind. The second: treat everyone else with the same respect you'd like to see in return. Cool? Great, post away. Comments are moderated so it might take a little while for your comment to show up. Thanks for being patient.
