Web development/design social groups?

coda screenshotKate emails:

I had a question for you and maybe the AOA readers could point me in the right direction. I'm new to web design and am wondering if there are any web design social groups in the capital district... groups where people get together with beers and binary, groups for drupal or word press, geeks who love to talk nerdy about html 5 and css... can you help a girl out?

Anyone have suggestions for Kate? Please share!

check out LinkedIn....there are many different groups listed there. Go to www.linkedin.com and sign up....it's free and a good way of networking with folks.

There's these guys: http://www.techvalleyrb.org/
I've never been though.

Apparently there's a Drupal group: http://groups.drupal.org/albany-ny

No Wordpress, though, which I'm more interested in.

You could also check meetup.com as they have groups for many different interests.

Build Guild! Very strictly speaking, it's probably more web development than design, but there are always a couple designers there, at least. They meet the second-to-last Wednesday of every month at Browns in Troy. If you google "build guild alb" they have a website and twitter account.

this may be the sort of thing you're looking for:

This is the time of year that the user groups tend to take a summer break. Check out this list. I regularly go to the ColdFusion user group.

There are monthly CMYK (Come Meet Your Kind) meet-ups in the capital region organized through the upstate chapter of the AIGA. A more design oriented group - but there are usually some web folks around too.
