Stephen Saland, the Republican state Senator who represented the decisive 32nd vote on the Marriage Equality Act, in an interview with Time on his decision: "When I came to the conclusion that civil unions wouldn't do it, and if you really believed in fairness and equality and doing the right thing... for me there was only one answer ...
