Record and Saratogian parent company sold

Journal Register, the company that owns the Troy Record and the Saratogian, has been bought by a hedge fund called Alden Global Capital. The head of JRC says the fund is "putting their money behind" the media company's push to become a "digital first" org. Alden has bought stakes in a string of distressed media properties over the last few years (they've had a lot of choices). JRC got out of bankruptcy in 2009. [JRC] [John Paton] [Nieman Lab]
