Times New Viking

Times New Viking -- serif or sans-serif?

A challenge to the idea that none of the "good" bands come through here: Times New Viking is playing Valentine's Sunday.

The indie band is known for its lo-fi sound. They're from Columbus, Ohio and are members of the Church of Latter Day Guided By Voices. Their latest album, Dancer Equired, isn't as fuzzy or noisy as their previous stuff. Reviews: AV Club | The Fork | Paste | All Songs Considered | Spin.

The show starts at 8 pm. Better Pills (Brent Gorton) and Gay Tastee open. $10

Aficionado Don't forget that locals Aficionado are playing a show at Valentine's tonight to celebrate the upcoming release of their album on No Sleep Records (pre-order).

And for something completely different Isle of Klezbos -- a "frolicsome" six-piece women's klezmer band -- is at The Linda tonight.

TNV totally SLAYED in San Francisco last month. One of the best bands out there. Albany is lucky to have them coming through. Yell for "Devo & Wine"! Plus - it seems like they'll play longer if an audience member buys them shots.

This band must be good, that picture looks like it was taken in 1964.

The Scoop

For a decade All Over Albany was a place for interested and interesting people in New York's Capital Region. It was kind of like having a smart, savvy friend who could help you find out what's up. AOA stopped publishing at the end of 2018.

Albany tightened its rules for shoveling snowy sidewalks last winter -- so how'd that work out?
