Cohoes' zoning board of appeals this week granted a variance to a man who wanted to keep backyard chickens at his home in south Cohoes. The conditions for the variance are similar to the rules that were in the Albany backyard chickens ordinance. [Troy Record]

I love it. I was hoping for something like this to happen. Maybe this will encourage more forward-thinking people to move out of Albany to Cohoes? It certainly seems more friendly to chickens, and maybe to people, too.

I've wondered about these fowl before. I drive by this place everyday. Sometimes they are free ranging right onto the road by the RR crossing. I wonder how many have been lost to being hit by cars.
