Albany's looking for all that jazz
Do you see yourself as the next Charlie Parker or Nina Simone? Here's a good opportunity to show off your chops. The City of Albany and the Downtown Business Improvement District are looking for area jazz musicians to take part in the 1st Annual Downtown Albany Jazz Fest Competition, which will be held at various venues around downtown on the evening of September 9th. The winner of the competition will be determined by audience votes, and they will get to play the opening set at the next day's Albany Riverfront Jazz Fest. Musicians are asked to submit an application, along with mp3s of their work. The application can be downloaded here. The competitors will be chosen by a juried panel. Every act that is chosen to compete will be paid $100.
The lineup of this year's jazz fest includes Kevin Eubanks, Big Sam's Funky Nation, Jeff Coffin Mu'tet, Simone and Michael Benedict & Bopitude.
Say Something!
We'd really like you to take part in the conversation here at All Over Albany. But we do have a few rules here. Don't worry, they're easy. The first: be kind. The second: treat everyone else with the same respect you'd like to see in return. Cool? Great, post away. Comments are moderated so it might take a little while for your comment to show up. Thanks for being patient.
