Andrew Beam, this week on My Exit

WEXT's My Exit is back. Every Monday night local listeners get to come into the station and program an hour of music. We thought it'd be fun to find out a little bit about these people and why they picked the songs on their play list.

Here's this week's My Exit DJ...

Who?
Andrew Beam. I'm currently a reporter for the Colonie edition of the Spotlight News where I literally write about everything that happens in Colonie. Seriously, everything.

How would you describe your taste in music?
My music taste is most certainly eclectic. But everyone says that about their music taste, don't they? I'll listen to everything but Bon Jovi.

A few songs from Andrew's show:

"Lotus Flower" - Radiohead
I could not stop listening to this song when the album first came out. There is something about deep bass the synth provides on this song that grabs me as well as Phil Selway's intricate drumming. It also helped that whenever I listen to the song I just have the music video playing in my head where Thom Yorke displays his erratic, yet beautiful dance moves.

"Four Score and Seven" - Titus Andronicus
It's an epic song from a really amazing band. It starts out slow and slowly picks up to this anthemic climax that is perfect to sing (shout) along to when seeing them live. Especially after having a few drinks. And everyone well get their chance to do that at Restfest on Aug. 27.

"Parade" - Delta Spirit
It's all about the guitar riff in this one. The notes just seem to slide and bend all over the place with a really simple bass and drum backing. Plus, I just love hearing Matt Vasquez's raspy voice screaming all over this track. It has some gang vocals as well, which my friends and I are just suckers for. They're a Great band that deserves a lot more attention.

"Houdini" - Foster the People
I know everyone's favorite is "Pumped Up Kicks," but that song never really caught my attention, and it also kind of rips off Peter, Bjorn and John with the whistling. "Houdini" is just a stand out track from the band and is one of my favorites to see them play live. This first beat of the song is pounding and gets you moving almost instantly.

Yellow Balloon
- Twin Shadow
I hate 80s music. I really do. But there is something about George Lewis Jr.'s take on this new wave style that I'm really drawn to. It's more beat driven music on CD, which I love, but when I saw them live at both the Sasquatch Music Festival and the Pitchfork Music Festival, his fiery guitar work was front and center.

You can hear Andrew's My Exit show tonight at 8 on 97.7 or at exit977.org.

Here's how to schedule your own My Exit show on WEXT.
