Waffle Week returns to Brown's

browns brewing sign closeupBrown's Brewing is bringing waffle back this year. Monday through Friday next week Brown's will be featuring a different waffle special in honor of the waffle iron being patented in Troy on August 24, 1869.

This year's lineup has some interesting-looking -- and funny -- waffles. Also: many of them involve protein, thankfully. (We love carbs as much as the next person, but you know, we try to avoid napping our desk in the afternoon.) The full lineup is pasted after the jump.

Brown's Second Annual Waffle Week
Monday, August 22 through Friday August 26. Lunch & Dinner.

A Triumphant Celebration of the Birth of the Waffle Iron. Patented by Cornelius Swarthout in Troy, NY on August 24, 1869

Monday, August 22 - The Bob Ferguson
A standout for the Troy Trojans in the 1880s, Ferguson was the first switch-hitter in professional baseball. He was also the only person to be an umpire, player, manager and league official all at the same time. To salute this ballpark waffler and Troy's rich baseball heritage, we offer a Tomhannock Pilsner Waffle topped with Troy's own Hembold's Hotdogs and a Sweet Pickle Relish.

Tuesday, August 23 - The Sarah Palin
Is she running? Is she not? Is she dumb? Is she not? Rogue independent thinker? Annoying attention sponge? A tribute to this waffler from the Last Frontier, we offer a Hefe-Weizen Waffle with Smoked Salmon and sides of Fried Capers, Diced Onions and Crumbled Hard Boiled Egg.

Wednesday, August 24 - The Sir Galahad
"Blue, no yellow!" was clearly no way to answer the Bridgekeeper at the Bridge of Death over the Gorge of Eternal Peril when asked, "What is your favorite color?" Didn't work out so well for Galahad. We honor the royally amusing British sensibilities of Monty Python with a Yorkshire Pudding Waffle topped with sliced Prime Rib and Au Jus.

Thursday, August 25 - The Troy City Hall
This waffle could have been named the Troy City Council for its comically clumsy waffling on the home for City Hall. Dauchy? Verizon? New City Center? Old Porn Theater? In tribute, a delightful waffle with each quarter a different flavor: Strawberry, Blueberry, Cranberry and Raspberry Waffle Quarters all brought together with Mint Whipped Cream.

Friday, August 26 - The Benedict Arnold
Once again, our conclusive grand finale honors the father of our great nation's tradition of waffling. He needs no further introduction. A traditional American Waffle topped with Canadian Bacon, English Poached Egg and finished with a Hessian Hefe-Weizen Hollandaise.

Sign me up for the Sarah Palin!

Let's hope they make enough to get through dinner this year. Last year most of the provisions were gone after lunch, leaving some very disappointed diners.

+1 with Irisa, same experience last year, waited an hour for seats (yes, I'm know joking around when it comes to waffles), only to hear that they were out of waffles. Out. Of. Waffles.

So come early, or ask before getting a seat or while in line :)
Or just make your own.
