Humane shelter wins grant for pit bull education project
The Mohawk-Hudson River Humane Society has won a $25,000 Pepsi Refresh Grant toward its Save-A-Bull project.
The money will be used for training pit bulls and their owners, public education about the breed, and to improvements to the pit bull shelter space. Meanwhile, humane society executive direction Brad Shear blogged yesterday about why the attack on the woman in Schenectady doesn't mean that all pibbles are bad.

I love this!! I have two small dogs (1 of which is a rescue) but have a big respect for those who advocate for pit bulls. The agressive few that give the breed a bad name are rarely acting that way without negative human intervention.
Go MHRHS!! It may not be much, but I'll keep dropping off my returnable bottles there as my little way to support this organization.

My rescued part-American pit bull terrier is so very grateful for well thought through responses such as this. Coming from an overcrowded shelter where he arrived after a suspected life as a 'bait-dog' his unending love and loyalty to my family is somewhat acknowledged by opinions which do not further blame him for the actions of other dogs, and more to the point, the inaction of some owners who CAUSE this issue. No humans should have to fear dogs (of any breed) and no dog should be taught or enticed to lead to their own destruction. We can do better by all counts. This is the most abused breed in our country.
