A good hair colorist

BrideofFrankenstein001.jpgThis just in from Amber:

My hair is a hot mess. I was in very capable hands until I moved back to the area a few years ago. Since then I've had a lot (LOT) of trouble finding a decent colorist. I've endured disasters (green hair, falling out hair) and a whole lot of meh (boring loring zoring color). I have resorted to DIY thinking surely I could do better than what I've been paying to have done to me. Yeah, not so much. I'm looking for someone who is good with blondes and who can do color correction. Somebody who can give me that zing - like have it look natural but with an extra oomph. What say you, capital region? Who have you got to recommend? I'd love to hear stories of their expertise. For reference I live in Saratoga but will travel for the right colorist.

Green hair? Hair falling out? Yikes! Can anyone help Amber out?

Diana at Joli Salon and Spa in Colonie Center is amazing.

Amy at Scissors 3 is an awesome colorist. (It's on Central Ave in Colonie kinda across from Delmonico's) She's been highlighting my hair for years and I know she specializes in coloring and has a lot of experience with color corrections. I love her and would totally recommend her to anyone!

My bff has been going to Christopher Brian, formerly of Townsend and Company, for a long time. He recently opened his own salon in Cohoes. He has recolored her hair after she was unhappy with a home coloring job, and even turned the hair that resulted from a stovetop fire into one of the cutest cuts I've ever seen. He did my first post baby hair cut too....and man did I feel like a whole new woman.

I get my hair done by Kaylena at Innovations on Western Ave in Guilderland. She is awesome. They only use Paul Mitchell products and she does amazing color jobs! Love love LOVE her!

Try Janelle Tavormina at Sanctuary Spa in Saratoga. She has a ton of experience and is great and melding what you want with what will actually look good on you!

Try B'yond Style on New Scotland Avenue across from St. Peter's. The owner is Bridget, and she works wonders. She only uses Goldwell dye. It's a bit pricey, but worth every penny.

Eddie at Regis in Colonie Center is excellent. She really knows hair and spends time determining what type of hair you have and what it needs from cut, dyes, products, etc. She's the only person I trust to tame my snakes (I have curly hair) and she does fantastic color work.

I go to Robert at Shapes & Colors on Wolf Rd in Colonie. I don't color my hair, but I've seen the work he's done on others and he's great. Not to mention, I had horror hair for a year after a bad cut and he fixed me. It was the first time in a year that I was happy with my hair.

It's a long way from Saratoga but I can't speak highly enough of Amy at Choices in Delmar. She's been coloring my 'old mom' hair for years and my 19 year old daughter's (mostly blonde but often multi-colored) hair for a couple of years now - and we're both very happy with our respectives colors. She's very talented and a lovely person to boot.

Kathe over at Indigo Salon in Troy. http://www.goindigohair.com

Lily at rumors in Latham is seriously amazing, adorable and wonderful! I get wacky stuff done and if I don't like it she's right there to change it up again. Every time I go it's like a big present to myself. Love it there and love lily!!!

Gina recently opened her own salon. She is great, fun, young but still professional. She listens to what you want and does an even better job if you show her a picture. She did ombre highlights on me recently and I got endless compliments!

Rebecca at V Salon on Western Ave. is amazing with color and highlights as well as cuts. Turns out almost all the women in my office go to her and we are very satisfied.

Megan at Studio Orlo on Balltown Rd. in Niskayuna! She's wonderful at color and they are an Aveda salon so you can't go wrong.

Love, love, love Jackie at Broadway Salon in Saratoga.

Jill at Cleopatra's on Central, just west of Wolf Rd. I moved out of Albany a couple years ago and just can't find anyone I like. Jill is great!

Christopher Brian's on Remsen St on Cohoes is where it is at. His shop is gorgeous, his color lasts and s beautiful, and his cuts are fun and easy to care for. He's on facebook!

I'd like to second the comments about Christopher at the new Christopher Brian Salon. My entire family and fiance's family now go to him because he's just that good with color and cut. My mom did the box color for years to be frugal and since having him do her 'do, she's never regretted spending a bit more for gorgeous color. PS- he does hair for Fashion Week runway models in NYC, so not-boring hair is his specialty.

Nicole beat me to it! Lily at Rumors gets my vote too. Definitely best stylist I've ever had. Not only does she really know what she's doing, but she's sweet as pie to boot!

I highly recommend Denise at Ania Hair Studio on Western Avenue (in the Price Chopper Plaza) --she's a senior stylist, formerly with Jean Paul, and is a certified Goldwell colorist, and is Bumble and Bumble trained. She's incredibly talented and is one of their "go-to" people for color corrections and consultations.

Count me as third to recommend Lily at Rumors. I love her! I've never had a bad experince with her, and she always listens to what I want

i second Indigo in Troy - they use all natural, plant based coloring with no ammonia. I have been getting mine done for 2 years there, always a beautiful job.

Thanks for all the suggestions and thanks AOA.

I totally recommend Christopher Feml of Christopher Brian Salon in Cohoes. He is fantastic.I always get so many comments on how great my hair looks. It is all him!!!

I highly recommend Gloria at Jolie Salon in Colonie Center. She gave me a great cut and blowout and I have difficult hair to cut since it has a slight wave to it. She also did not take off too much of the length and did a fantastic job on my bangs. I find it very easy to style now. She really listened and is very sweet. I plan to go there again.

Patrizia at Ania Hair Studio and Spa is amazing! She uses Aveda natural hair color and can do classic or trendy color. I have blue in my bangs and it always comes out great! So many people at my school asked me where I got it done :) she will do anything you want
