Some shows that are coming up, fall 2011

Andrew Bird's playing the Troy Music Hall.

There are a bunch of concerts worth mentioning that were recently announced, or were announced not recently but are now coming up. These are concerts that you -- yes, you -- may even like to attend.

And here are those concerts...

This list doesn't include shows from this week. Some of these have already been mentioned -- we didn't think you'd mind.

October 2: Madeleine Peyroux and Nellie McKay at The Egg
Two ladies who sound like they might be in the wrong decade(s). In a good way.

October 3: Jackson Browne at The Palace
Solo and acoustic.

October 3: Shenandoah Davis at The First Street Ballroom in Troy
A (not so) secret Swordpaw show. With Sarah Puig, and the Lucky Jukebox Brigade.

October 5: Wye Oak at Valentine's
Folky, dreamy indie rock. With Hilly Eye (a member of Titus Andronicus), and The Red Lions.

October 7: TV on the Radio at Skidmore
As mentioned. And, yep, it's open to the general public.

October 12: Hanson at Northern Lights
Look, they're old(er) now.

October 13: Andrew Bird at Troy Savings Bank Music Hall
As noted already. With: Dosh.

October 13: Boyz II Men at Saratoga Casino
Are these guys old-school yet? Almost?

October 14: Josh Ritter at The Egg
Solo, acoustic. He's writes books now, too. With: John Wesley Harding.

October 18: Weird Al at The Palace
Part of the ALpocalypse tour. (The end of days involves an accordion and polka, apparently.)

October 22: Marco Benevento at Red Square
Composer, organist, electric pianist.

October 24: Amos Lee at The Egg
For whatever reason, his music ends on TV shows all the time.

October 25: Indigo Girls at The Egg
At what point they just admit their age and start calling themselves the Indigo Women?

October 27: Rasputina at Helsinki Hudson
Cellos. Victorian fashion.

October 27: Panic! at the Disco at Northern Lights
Emphatic punctuation!

October 29: Halloween at Valentine's
Covers downstairs, the Freak-out upstairs.

October 30: Soulive at the Massry Center
Funk/jazz trio covering the Beatles.

November 2: Lindsey Buckingham at The Egg
Fleetwood Mac rock Hall of Famer, still making albums.

November 5: Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings at Helsinki Hudson
Soul.

November 6: Bobby Long at The Linda
Folksy and bluesy and British-y. And, look, it's a donut version of him.

November 9: Joe Bonamassa at The Palace
Blues rock.

November 10: Bel Biv Devoe at Saratoga Casino
It's our understanding that girl is poison.

November 17: Chris Cornell at The Egg
The guy from Soundgarden, "performing songs from his entire career," acoustic.

November 22: Ray Davies at The Egg
Of Kinks fame.

December 3: Eilen Jewell at The Linda
"Queen of the Minor Key."

December 10: Dar Williams at Proctors
She's originally from the town where Andrew Cuomo now lives.

December 17: ASO and Joshua Bell at The Palace
Superstar violinist -- even if people walk past him in the subway.

December 22: Kenny Rogers at Proctors
Time to fold them apparently still has not arrived.

So, that's a bunch of shows. But, obviously, not comprehensive. If there's something you're looking forward to, please share.

If you can handle the screaming, Hanson always puts on a fantastic show! Yes MMMBop is played but they have a lot more to offer :-)

Josh Ritter, October 14 at the Egg.

I 110% recommend traveling to Hudson to see Sharon Jones. One of the best shows I've ever seen.

@pjm: Already in there! Right between Boyz II Men and Weird Al. Hmm... that's an odd trio.

Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings are fantastic live - that's a show that will be well worth driving to Hudson for. And I've heard that Eilen Jewell is really good live, too . . . a very cool show to see right here in Albany at the Linda.

ooohhhh Rasputina! chics in corsets with cellos. it doesn't get much better. (but i'll see the indigo girls to balance it out)

Well, good, now I know what to do with all those paychecks I've been getting in the mail.

10/14 - Severe Severe will be playing a show at Valentines downstairs with TWO DRUMMERS. Their set is at 8pm, so get there early!

also on the bill that night:
Around the World and Back
Alta Mira
The Lights Out
The Makeshift Dream

pokey lafarge and the south city three is excellent live, killed at the newport folk festival and is playing cafe lena in saratoga on sunday, october 23. small stage, big sound.

here's some proof:
