A bag of local goodies from the Harvest Festival

Update: The drawing is closed. Congratulations Shannon!

Local Harvest Logo.jpgHonest Weight's 3rd annual Local Harvest Festival is this Sunday in Washington Park. More than 30 local food producers and restaurants will be offering samples and selling their products and and Ben KN, Matthew Carefully and Olivia Quillio will be playing tunes.

The Local Harvest Festival is a lot of fun, and a great way to showcase the locally produced bounty we've got here in the 518. AOA has collected some of that bounty and we're giving away a shopping bag filled with local deliciousness from the Harvest Fest. It includes:

+ A "Big Ol' Box Of Baked Goods" (a loaf of bread, cinnamon buns, scones and muffins) from All Good Bakers -- an ethical farm to bakery/cafe. They serve locally-sourced lunches, artisan breads and from-scratch baked goods. Open Fri-Sun.

+ Salad Essentials, Sweet Maple and Salt Pecans, and Mexican Cocoa Almonds from Our Daily Eats. All of their gourmet nuts, seeds and granola are made in the Hudson Valley and they've just started making their own basil pesto.

+ Two Camembert squares from Old Chatham Sheepherding Company

+ Homemade hummus from Three Chicks and a P

+ Two kinds of gourmet granola from the folks at Gatherer's Granola: Chipmunks Choice with almonds, peanut butter and maple syrup; and Squirrel Bait with pecans, maple syrup and toasted coconut.

+ A 1 pound jar of raw honey and a pair of beeswax candles from Lloyd Spear, Beekeeper. The honey is extracted and bottled in a Honey House in Schenectady from over 300 hives in the Capital District.

+ A $30 gift certificate for Honest Weight Coop

Lloyd Spear's local honey.

A friend of mine put me onto local honey to diminish my allergies a few years ago. She described it as "like a delicious allergy shot" and she is right. Eating local honey puts your body more in tune with the pollen in the air, and Lloyd does some really cool things with his honey, like spun honey, sometimes even flavored.

Mmm... pardon me while I go make myself some tea (as an excuse to have some honey).

Buddapesto! I use it on everything and it freezes beautifully. In the dead of winter, pesto is the promise of spring and all that is verdant. Plus, its yummy!

Hands down, my favorite locally made food is feta from Argyle Cheese Farmer. It is AWESOME.

My favorite food from the capital region is the Apple Cider donuts are Golden Harvest in Valatie.

the garlic spread at the co-op! so awesome

My favorite local food...tough one!!! I would have to say the gelato at Crisan or any of the delicious baked goods at Xs to Os Vegan Bakery. Yummmm. I have a sweet tooth.

Definitely buddah pesto with a crusty baguette from the Troy farmers market!

I like our selection of local meats - especially the free range heritage breed turkey i got last year from Frantzen's Scenic Acres for thanksgiving (Delmar Farmer's Market). That bird was tasty! Also enjoy the grass fed beef from Gordon Farms (foodiemarket.com).

Where to start, anything by Battenkill Valley Creamery, especially the chocolate milk and most definitely the cider and cider donuts from Golden Harvest!

well... I would have to say the fresh carrots, and other delicious veggies at the Farmers markets. that, and the Duarte plums from one of the vendors at the farmer's market at Maiden lane on thursdays. Sweet delicious seasonal fruit (and veggies). :)

I ruled out Crisan's Gelato and Drinking Chocolate, since I assume that some of the ingredients are from far away lands.

I also ruled out the Americano from Crisan and Cafe Vero, since I assume the beans are from not so close.

And, oh the wine at For Love of Wine... The shop is local, but my favorites are not... so many flavors to love. :)

Buddhapesto!!

My favorite locally-made Capital Region food is anything from Sticky Fingers - does that count? Absolutely Delicious Goodies.

My favorite locally made foods are pastas & risutos!!! I also enjoy locally made breads.

Apple cider donuts, for sure!

The goat cheese (all varieties) from R&G Cheesemakers out of Cohoes. Available at farmer's markets. I don't eat any other kind of cheese but this goat cheese is magnificant!

Fudge Fancies from the Cookie Factory in Troy

Apple cider donuts from Indian Ladder Farm, they always have a nice sugar coated crunch and moist inside.

Umm...HELLO Washington County cheese, especially the garlic and herb goat cheese from Sweet Spring Farm in Argyle (pretty surprised by this, actually).

Hudson Red cheese from Ghent - it's amazing, and is the perfect not quite as soft cheese compliment to the Chatham Sheepherders Camembert.

First thing that came to my mind was apples. We have so many orchards, and so many varieties. And I have one on my desk right now.

My favorite local food is the Chatham Cheese Company's cheeses, they are just so delicious.

I would have to say my favorite is... Cheesecake Machismo cheesecake. I'll take any excuse to swing by their hilarious shop and get a few slices!

I absolutely love Buddhapesto... I get it all of the time at Troy's Farmer's Market. So much flavor... so delicious!

snowman ice cream.

Also that bread that made up in Ganesvoort that name of is escaping me at the moment. Stone something.

Although it can't be found at the event you're speaking of, hands down - Stewart's Ice Cream! The flavors are fun and ever-changing and sometimes have a local flair - and it's just delicious!

I have a serious problem with the fig and honey goat cheese from Painted Goat Farm. Amazing.

Donuts from King's Bakery in Cambridge and Battenkill Valley Creamery chocolate milk. Oh, and Borden's apple cider! (it's the best)

A hard choice! 3 way tie between Buddhapesto (i have used my fingers to scrape out every last bit of that heaven and eat it), Argyle Cheese Farmers Caerphilly cheese, my son and I eat it cut up with apples, and unfortunately I don't know the name of the company, but Pioneer has started to carry Icelandic skyr in a maple flavor that is just yuuummmmm.

I have several local favorites. But, the first thing that came to mind is Apple Cider. It's the season!

Definitely Lloyd Spear's honey. Its delicious and comes in so many forms (candy, combs, flavors, etc.) Plus, it makes you feel like you and Lloyd are buddies, and who wouldn't want to be friends with a beekeeper?

Apple cider donuts from Indian Ladder Farms. I just got some last weekend and they were amazing!!

Cardona's marinara sauce. It's made right in the back of the store in big vats by Grandpa Cardona and it's the perfect blend of tomatoes and herbs.

There are so many!! I'm snacking on sunflower seed butter & crackers from the co-op.. Favorite local food of today!

Any type of scone from Our Daily Bread in Chatham.

I love "Adirondack Jack" from Saratoga Peanut Butter Company - lovely nut butter made from almonds, peanuts, cranberries, sunflower seeds and flax seeds. Awesome on toast, but just a scoop by itself can get me going when I need a pick-me-up! YUM.

My favorite snack is made at New Old Stuff in Troy. Chocolate covered jellies.

Since the cider donuts from ILF have already been mentioned, I'll go with the bacon from Nagimor Farm.

I picked up a locally made Burrata at The Meat House in Stuyvesant last weekend. To die for! I gotta get back there to get more and note the place that makes it.

I enjoy the pies made at Price Chopper bakery at the HVCC plaza.

This was a tough one...
Latest addiction is anything from Flour City Pasta (especially the Southern Heat Orzo, it's great in homemade burritoes), Buddhapesto is an obvious and fantastic choice, and the rosemary fig goat cheese from Painted Goat. All fabulous and available at the Schenectady GreenMarket. :-)

Battenkill Farms Chocolate Milk!! Yumm

I love peanut butter and I LOVE fancy peanut butters. It's my treats. I love The Peanut Principle's peanut butters. I find them at the Delmar Farmer's Market. And I DO love All Good Bakers, scones, cinnamon buns, their energy treats.
Argyle farms cheese! Yum.

I hate to be a repeat, but the cider donuts from Indian Ladder Farms are out of this world! So declicious this time of year!

Ice cream. From Jim's to Twist (at Jericho Drive-In) to Kurver to Guptil's, pretty much wherever I can get it, I want it, and it's my favorite. I'm going to be sad when the seasonal places close their doors until spring, and I'll just keep buying Stewart's...

Just one fave? OH boy. Okay, I'd have to give #1 spot to Heather Ridge Farm's (Preston Hollow) apple sausages. But! I also look forward to Schnare Orchard's (Earlton) cider every year.

Tough question. Since you mentioned Lloyd Spear, Beekeeper, I'm now thinking about how much I love that honey.

Brown's Brewing makes a pretty awesome Oatmeal Stout too.

Daily Grind roasted coffee beans....while the beans can't be local, the roasting is.

Maybe I'm just a simple man but my favorite is milk from Meadowbrook Farms in Clarksville. I love picking up a fresh bottle at Honest Weight and pouring a cold glass in the evening. It's even better if I'm washing down a fresh batch of cookies!

Yup, hello cider donuts! Indian Ladder Farms still the best.

Cheesecake Machismo's candy bar cheesecake! I love sitting in their shop with a slice and a tea flipping through their cheesecake photo album! Yum!

I just love the Mu Mu Muesli made right here in NY- with whole grain oats, cranberries, coconut, dates and raisins, it's so satisfying and good for you too!

Bilinski's Apple Chardonnay chicken sausages!

I would have to echo the Indian Ladder cider donuts sentiment. So delicious.

But I'll give a shout out to the hard rolls from Prinzo's bakery on Delaware. My grandpa has been them for many years, and he still makes me go get a bag of them at least once a week. And when you can satisfy that crotchety old man (love you gramps!) you've earned my respect.

"Adirondack Jack" from Saratoga Peanut Butter Company. Peanut butter with chopped almonds, peanuts, cranberries, sunflower seeds and flax seeds. Mix in some mini chocolate chips and stuff cored apples with them. They make a great healthy snack for hikers, kids and adults!

Buddhapesto :-)

Bomb Diggity Dill Dip from Honest Weight, definitely tops the list all year round.

Placid Baker baguettes. Only good local baguette.

Saratoga Peanut Butter Company's "Adirondack Jack." The drug of choice for avid hikers in the area...and SO delicious.

apple cider donuts

Wow, I wish you'd done this by category...but even if I narrowed it down to baked goods I'd still have to decide between Mrs. London's croissants, Fo'Castle's cider donuts and Perecca's bread.
Ok, PERECCA'S BREAD simply the best!!!

The Old Chatham Sheepherding Company's Hudson Valley Camembert Square is awfully nice. So is their Maple Sheep's Milk Yogurt. There are a lot of other great local cheeses at Honest Weight in Albany. And I don't think the person who named Meadowbrook Farms milk as his favorite is simple. Their whole milk has pretty much ruined me for anything else.

Many of my favorites have been mentioned here already (buddapesto, Indian Ladder donuts and cider, sauces from Cardona's, gelato from Crisan) so I'll go with another favorite that hasn't been thrown out there yet...

Hummus from Hidden Café in Delmar!

Summer Corn from Orshan's on Route 9

mine has to be Devoe Orchards ice cream, although the Pies at Bowman Orchards are also to die for

Peaches from Maynard Farms. No one beats them!

My favorite is the locally grown vegetables and herbs from the Community Gardens sold at the Farmer's Market in Delmar... I also love Denison Farms for their organic produce sold at the Troy Farmer's Market and their CSA

I also love Buddhapesto and I really love the goat milk cheese at the coop- olive oil and garlic and maple walnut!

Core Vodka from Golden Harvest in Valatie, Cheers!

The burgers (or anything else) from New World Bistro Bar

I LOVE the crusty italian bread from Nino's bakery!

Oh boy, how to choose just one? Since I'm in a cheesy kind of mood, I will say the cheese curds from Argyle Farms, but Cardona's Market, Crisan, All Good Bakers, and Thunder Mountain Curry are definitely on the list of amazing and unique local food stops.

While there are sooo many great options, I have to choose Buddhapesto. It's so fresh and delicious and it's green color is amazing.

Palatine cheese. It's made in the 518, and all of their brick cheeses, curds and spreads are beyond yummy. I pick them up whenever I see them!

My family and I adore all goodies from All Good Bakers and the cheeses from R & G cheeses. You can't go wrong with fresh baked bread and butter topped with perfectly aged cheese. Thank You!

Anything from New World Bistro

My favorite local food are the foods that simmer on my stove made from my garden or the amazing veggies from local farmers. Best prepared local food is just about anything from All Good Bakers!

Puckers Gourmet Sour Garlic Pickles Rock!!!
Also love Lloyd Spear's Raw Unfiltered Honey.

I like the raw kim chee made at Hawthorne Valley Farms in Columbia County. The kim chee, which is available from the HWFC, is an awesome blend of raw, crunchy, fermented vegetables. Tasty and healthy!

I can't pick just one. I love our local farmers markets w/ all the varity!

Milk from Meadowbrook Farm is my #1. Also, the butter from Cowbella? I think it's out of Catskill. Yum!

Any cheese from Liza Porter in the Saratoga Farmer's Market (though the blue is my favorite).

Wow, so many of my favorites have already been listed.

As if straight up basil wasn't addictive enough, Buddhapesto turns it into delcious delicious crack.

The folks who work for Lloyd Spear have walked me through so many kids of honey - I now will eat honeycomb with a fork (why bother trying to put it on an English Muffin when the honey is what I really want). And his wildflower honey is to die for.

I stopped at Golden Harvest the other day after work and got hot, fresh cider donuts. They split the dozen into two bags because if they stacked the donuts, the hot sugar would stick together - best problem I had all week. I had eaten two by the time I reached I-90.

Argyle Cheese Farmer makes the thickest, smoothest plain Greek Yogurt - I have never liked plain yogurt until I tried theirs. In addition, their basil and garlic cheese curds are snappy and perfect for eating plain, in salads or melted into an omlet.

Rock Hill Bakehouse has the best biscotti on the planet. Their jalepeno cheddar bread and their sun dried tomato bread are so good I have to buy one of each because I can never pick just one.

I don't recall the name of the business, but the maple couple at the Troy Farmer's Market with the maple cotton candy...wowzers. Maple cotten candy, there are no words.

Honey crisp apples from anywhere locally!

Until I discovered Columbia County peaches, I had no idea peaches could be tender, juicy and beyond sweet! My favorite place is Love Apple on 9H.

No grocery store produce can compete with our local farmers - this area is surprising fantastic for variety and quality. Go Albany.

I am absolutely addicted to the Saratoga Peanut Butter Company's New York Maple peanut butter! It is beyond delicious on waffles (and just about anything else).

The house-made sopressata from Andy & Son's on Delaware Ave in Albany. When thinly sliced on homemade pizza, it's a bite of spicy, fatty heaven.

I have 2 -Puckerman Pickles! They are the absolute best pickle and I could eat them at every meal
and Brown's Cherry Raspberry Ale - it's delish!

Brown's brewing company IPA made with local hops

My husband and kids LOVE the apple cider donuts from Indian Ladder Farm. They are the best in the area.

I love Peanut Principle's pumpkin seed and sunflower seed butters. They are so good, w/ no junky ingredients, & make a delicous change from the usual!

Wine from Hudson Chatham Winery, and beer from Brown's brewing.

Yum!

I love me some maple syrup... doesn't really matter WHO makes it, and there are a lot of local places that do.

I'd say cheese curd, but it's hard to find around here...

Brown's beer!!! That's food, right?

Snowman Ice Cream from Lansingburgh.

Ripe juicy pears.

A meal from All Good Bakers or Adirondack maple syrup.

Smoked horseradish-bacon cheddar from Oscars! http://www.oscarssmokedmeats.com/

At the moment, it's Macadamia Chocolate Biscotti from Rock Hill Bake House

Cider donuts from Golden Harvest in Valatie!

Veggies from my own yard! Nothing beats walking out your door, getting the produce you need and prepping it right away...or eating the carrots with the dirt still on, like my toddler does. :)

My absolute favorite is the Farmers Horseradish Cheese from the Amazing Real Live Food Co. I bought two tubs of it during last year's Harvest Fest and I've been addicted ever since!

Sundae's Best fudge sauce. Mmmmm. Though there are lots of good foods around here, from mini-dogs at Famous Lunch to doughboys at Esperanto's to apples and cider doughnuts.

This week's favorite are my Macintosh apples from Indian Ladder Farms dipped in Mr. Spears' honey. But I also love the asparagus from Gade Farm in the spring!

Lloyd Spears' spun raspberry honey (oh so good) or the honeycomb (which, if you pair it with a slice of sharp cheddar and a salty cracker....yum!), "Do You Think My Flax is Sexy?" peanut butter, which I get at the Delmar Farmers Market, Nutella croissants from Crisan (genius), Buddhapesto (of course), cider donuts from Indian Ladder (worth the wait), Cardona's broccoli rabe, peanut butter and jelly ice cream from Tollgate, all polished off with every and any beer from Browns.

Whew, I'm full. Excuse me while I go take a nap.

If you havent discovered Cheescake Machismo yet then you really cant consider yourself a true Albanite. The Pumpkin Caramel Cheesecake would be my last meal on death row.

Every saturday I go to the Indian Ladder Farm with my boyfriend for breakfast. I always order the stuffed french toast. It's filled with seasonal fruits, and I pour local maple syrup on top of it. I drink my coffee with cream fresh from the farm. I look forward to this meal all week. Then I go feed the farm animals and find the Queen Bee in the wooden box. I will always remember this ritual.

The goat cheese with truffles from R&G Cheesemakers. Yummmm! Runner-up would be Puckers Gourmet Sour Garlic Pickles from Washington County.

I enjoy several things, Pear Brandy from Harvest Spirits in Valatie. Anything from X's to O's Vegan Bakery but especially the oatmeal cream pie cookies. I am seriously enjoying seitan made in Castleton, it is delicious.

Pepper shooters from Andy's Italian Deli on Delaware Ave. Mmmmmm.

Apple cider donuts from Indian Ladder Farm.

Our Daily Bread has the best Ciabatta

I LOVE the warm cider donuts Indian Ladder Farms serves this time of year. Their apple cider is also to die for!

Monkey boy peanut butter by saratoga peanut butter!! But if I was picking a favorite upstate item...Adirondack Creamery Pumpkin Pie Ice Cream for sure!!!!

Saratoga Garlic aioli! So delicious. I put it on burgers or grilled sausages.

Cheesecake Machismo wins for me too.. Tiger Stripes all the way.

Fresh jonagold apples from Saratoga Apples which can be found at the Troy Farmer's Market.

Turnovers and apple cider from Lindsey's country store in Clifton Park. So fresh and delicious!!!

Mu Mu Muesli! Because nothing is better in my chobani then a heaping teaspoon of all that coconut/almond/dried fruit/flax goodness!

Ooh that's tough....apple cider donuts from Altamont orchards or from Samascott Orchards, or maybe honey in the comb from Lloyd Spear, its definitely a toss up!

My favorite locally-produced foods are the vegetables from our Denison Farm CSA share. I also like Meadowbrook Farms whole milk.

Placid Baker scones. They're the perfect scone and the Placid Baker staff is always super friendly too.

Local organic eggs, meat and vegetables from our CSA farm: Eight Mile Creek in Westerlo. Delicious and nutrient dense - keeps our baby healthy! Thanks Pam and family!

Strongtree coffee from Hudson, NY (Honest Weight Food Co-op sells it too, and other places but they are located in the Amtrak station in Hudson). Pure heaven. Try their espresso too. You won't want to drink other coffee. Ever.

Any cheese from Liza Porter in the Saratoga Farmer's Market (though the blue is my favorite).

Anything from the Troy Farmer's Market. Enjoy Troy!

Love the donut shaped bread from Placid bakery and the cheesecake tarts at All Good!

Tierra Farms trail mix! Craisins and cashews and chocolate chips and seeds and its just great! I just wish you could stop at their post outside chatham and fill up a jar!

I love All Good Bakers, Our Daily Eats and Cheesecake Machismo :-)

Hudson Chatham Winery's Seyval Blanc. Also dark chocolate from Krause's.

It is very hard to choose when there are so many awesome local food options. I love the produce at Denison Farm. Not only is it my CSA, but I shop there at the Troy market because the produce is always the freshest and most beautiful (and tastiest). I don't eat much red meat, but when I do, it's from Sweet Tree Farm (You can get it from the Troy market and Honest weight). Seriously the freshest, most delicious, meatiest beef I've ever had. You can taste the love.

Guertze's barbecue chicken at the farmer's market in Delmar!! So smoky and deliciousss!!!

Apple cider donuts from Golden Harvest!!!! The tastiest treat of all!

in the last week, friends have given me homemade kombucha and hard cider, both delicious and made within a block of my apartment in downtown albany. also Hawthorne Valley yogurt..

Chicken Curry Pizza from Ali Baba in Troy! My favorite food ever.

Landjaeger from Rolf's Pork Store!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Captial Q beef brisket!

Brown's Harvest IPA!
Its fresh hopped, with locally grown hops. It's only around for a short time (in fact, I think it's already gone), but it is SO worth the wait.

This question was too easy...

Three way tie between Budda Pesto, Old Chatam Sheepherding Cambembert and Puckers Gourmet Sauerkraut!

We are very lucky to have such wonderful local food resources!

I'm a fan of Ronnybrook raspberry ice cream. Yummm

I'm a rather big fan of the bacon peanut butter made by the friendly folks over at Oscar's Adirondack Smoke House in Warrensburg.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Captial Q beef brisket!

My favorite locally made food is Battenkill Creamery milk . . . I drink the skim regularly but absolutely love the chocolate from time to time . . .

cider donuts from Indian Ladder Farms, Bilinski's chicken sausage

The breads and rolls from Rock Hill bakery, especially Panne Bello and Jewish Rye.

Apple cider and apple cider doughnuts from Golden Harvest are perennial favorites and fun for all, but, for this contest, I am going with puff pastries from Crisan.

Cheesecake Machismo's...well, cheesecake, and Crisan's Gelato. Yummm

Cheesecake from Cheesecake Machismo is my all-time favorite dessert. They are cheesecake geniuses!

Apple cider donuts from Indian Ladder Farms - my absolutely favorite!!!!!

This summer I enjoyed Maynard Farm's plums! I haven't been into plums for years until this summer, and they were a burst of sweet/sourness that I've been missing.

Buddah Pesto! I am definitely coming this weekend so I can find some more yummy local things.

My favorite local food is Stewarts Cookie Dough Ice Cream. In addition, we recently got a garlic spread from a farmer's market called Gar-La-La and that was to die for!!

My mind went toward two current dependable, affordable favorites: Broccoli Salad from Honest Weight Coop and Raspberry Oatmeal Pancakes from Cafe Madison.

milk from the Battenkill Creamery

So many to pick from! Today, I'd pick R&G's mozzarella cheese!

As much as I love everything from the Troy farmer's market, my all time local favorite is...Cheesecake Machismo. I don't even like cheesecake and I can't eat anyone else's but this cheesecake is delightful. I feel bad for everyone who thinks a certain chain restaurant's cheesecake is good because it doesn't come close. In particular Chocolate Chip Fasciana, Smores, Raspberry Lucille, and anything with beer are my favorites. Do it.

Bilinski's chicken sausages! Mmmm

All the great fruits and vegetables at Samascott Orchards in Kinderhook!

Gordon Farms Grass Fed beef in a Pump Station Burger

I am going to have to go with All Good Bakers. Just so good.
